Does anyone know how to get the dash apart? Or to be more exact, has anyone attempted to take out the factory radio yet? I wanna take mine out, but im not exactly sure what needs to be done without breaking anything. I wanna get some measurements of the area so i can make my own dash kit seeing as one probably wont be made for a while (just like everything else for these cars). Just looking for any help...thanks.

Well what I did was took the whole console area off, took the compartment off first to see what i was dealing with and worked my way up from there, everything pops right off with a lil force or more.
The front of the radio with the buttons will fall apart when you pull it out. my recommendation pull out the radio when your ready and have alot of time to customize the radio dash. This is a project and a half to do.
I been working on the kit for the last week, believe me this is not fun. This is going to be my 9th attempt and i hope i got all the kinks out of this one.
I was using plexi glass and MDF if your thinking of using something else please let me know, at this moment i'm willing to try anything different. If i get this done i'll post some pics up or send it to you

Good luck to ya Blaze04

No problem
1) The compartment I am Talking about is located in front of the shift knob, the lil door area where the ash tray suppose to be for smokers, took that out.

2) the panal for the climate control.

3) the radio deck itself

if you want also i took off all the brush aluminum parts so i can paint it gun metal just to make everything match. to bad i cant make it carbon fiber :) also never say never if they dont make parts for us someone will customize something ;) this is only the beginning

Sup? I had to opportunity to remove the middle compartment in order to install my FM Modulator for my MP3/CD changer. It was not cake work. However, I did manage to properly install the FM Modulator and everything works great.

1. Remove the shift knob. When you're sitting in the driver side. Lift the shift knob from the front to the back, as if you are pulling the part up and back.

2. Pull the console where the 12V plugin out. Grab it from the back and pull it towards you. There are no bolts, just give it a little pull and it will come out.

If you need more assistance or instructions. Hit me up on my email. I knew I shoulda taken some pictures during this process. I took pictures of my 03 Altima during this installation, but forgot to do it for the 04 Solara... If I have to take it apart again, I'll take some pics for ya and post it on my site. Also, my clock in the 04 Solara is slow for some reason, so Toyota has a new one ordered and I'm scheduled this Friday 4/09/04 to get it installed. I'll try to get some pictures during the installation if they let me.
Hope this helps.

Hope this help

1) take off the console on top where the vents and clock, temp gages are, no screws are there, but its a really really pain to pull out, what you need to do is try to get a grip somewhere and pull it toward you, you'll have to force it out because its in there really good, use a screw driver or something flat to pop it out, if it sounds like you broke something chances are you might not. but its a risk you have ta take.

2) when you got that dash out of the way you will see 2 screws remove them and you be able to take the radio out.

from there follow michaels examples to take the rest off.
Sorry Blaze this is the best i can do for ya. still trying to remember where the other screws go to

Sup U4ER? Thanks for the info. I had such a hard time figuring how to remove the top part and was only able to get the bottom. All is well and I was able to get things done.
