I was under the impression there was a certain amount of comradery, kinship between Solara owners of any age, driving any generation Solara, in any color, modified or stock. How disappointing to learn I was WRONG! It seems many generation 1/1.5 owners are quite pleased to learn generation 2 Solaras are selling poorly due to what some perceive as an ugly appearance. Look, everyone has different tastes. One man's treasure is another man's trash. But I don't see or understand the need to trash the looks of a car especially when that car is one of the reasons for this forum. Unless gen 1/1.5 owners are suggesting they would rather have a forum dedicated only to their cars.

Apparently I lose sight of the fact that this forum is primarily made up of younger, less tactful, less mature members.

You don't really have to start another post war here. Everyone has the right to comments on stuff that they don't like or like.

your barking up the wrong tree... you see... There are people in here who are not poking fun at one gen to the next.. I am 18 and I never did, but just because ur old, doesn't mean that you are brighter, more mature, or even have any more insite than myself... You should just keep your mouth to yourself or stop making such broad statements, just because there are people in here who are making statements that you don't agree on, doesn't mean you can blame it on us being "young, less tactful, less mature members"... I could be pretty broad here, and get lots off my chest about things, but im not going to be as childish as yourself... No offense... lets not cause war here, we are all one in the same, but we all have an opinion, and not always do people agree on them... so just chill

Well not to fan the flames BUT... there is a difference between older more experienced people and the younger crowd... if you dont realize that than you are blind.

This is not a blanket statement because I have met and talked to people of all ages and some "kids" seem pretty open minded and wise for their age... and on the flip I have met many close minded old people that think they are better than everyone...

people are a product of their environment...no matter how "OLD" they are .

We all should enjoy the right to make comments on whatever we like or dislike... if we didnt than we would be robots. We all make the choice to read the threads and to respond ... I personally think the old solara is an outdated and tired 2-door camry ( that is what it is ) BUT I have seen many that have been made to look quite sweet... I have also seen some new solaras that look like crap ( mine right now ...its soooo dirty ) .

I am an old guy too ( by most standards nowadays ) I am 33 and feel every bit of 50 every morning I wake up... And many times I feel superior to the kids I see on the street but I would still treat them with the same respect that I would expect. Unless they pissed me off !!!!

Fotodad got a bit carried away. I was more offended by the kicking of the cat and dog than what the whole post was about. Seriously, what was so bad? That was the opinion of one person. You and I know that is a positive aspect because it makes the car more rare to see on the street. I love that about this car, I only have seen a handful on the street. This shouldn't become a war. The fact of the matter is, the sales are at a decline because of many reasons. My opinion for the lack of popularity is marketing. How many commercials have you seen for the redesigned Solara? Have there been any ads that have geared the younger generation? What has Toyota done to market this car? The only reason I even considered the car was because I saw 1 on the road and wondered what it was because I loved the design of it. When I did further research, I was impressed by the output, the interior quality, the feel of the car overall, and the price for what you get. That's not good marketing though. I had to do the research. The car didn't jump out in commercials, ads, and billboards to etch this picture of a sleak, sexy styled sport sedan for someone who wants performance and luxury in one package. I think the covertible will be the savior of this generation Solara. Car companies usually hold out on the extras like turbo charging, supercharging, and convertibles, until the desire for that particular product starts to plummet. Look at the PT Cruiser and the Volkswagon Beetle for instance. These things started off just plain and simple. Then a turbo charged model came into existance for a few years. Now the convertible is here. It keeps the consumers interested in the same car over the years. In this case, despite being a planned arrival, it couldn't have come at a better time.

Sales figures

Postby cascino » Tue Mar 30, 2004 3:09 pm

I just parked my freshly waxed Absolutely Red 2004 Solara SLE with gold emblems, tinted glass, satellite radio, NAV, CD and Ivory leather interior at my local Toyota dealer while my mother shopped for an Avalon. My car created more attention than the models on the show room floor. Sales for 2 door cars have suffered across the industry and many companies have deleted these products, e.g., Acura CL. SUVs are the the current item of choice. Most families want at least 4 doors. There are not many Solaras in my community, but the features on my car are not found standard on many luxury models. The interior and ride of the Solara SLE compares with the Lexus ES330. Toyota sales are up in February 2004 nationwide for their cars and trucks. They just need to promote the Solara to the right audience (like me) who pays a lot of tuition for our kids and wants a luxurious, but affordable, automobile.

It is pretty pathetic that we can't all have kinship with Solaras of any generation and some immature people have to constantly write posts ranking on the looks of the Gen2 just to stir up people. Perhaps Fotodad got a little carried away but the posts that are incendiary just to stir up trouble should be deleted by the admins here. So admins, please start doing your duty.

Look, 700t 's statement was this

"Those of us who love and own the 1st generation Solara and don't like the 2nd gen Solara may be happy to know that the new Solara is being called a big sales disappointment by Gary Convis (TMMK President)."

1) "THOSE OF US", ok? not all of the 1/1.5 gen hates the 2 gen.
2) Your statement just turns out sound like ALL of the 1/1.5 gen doesn't like 2nd gen.

Can someone just lock this up?

Basically, 700t made an inflammatory message. He should have been confronted by the admin. Messages like that should not be allowed. Noone ever intimated that all Gen1/1.5 owners hate the Gen2. That would be very silly to think true. It's one thing to say you don't like the look of a car; it's another thing to be happy a Toyota car is having disappointing sales. You'd think Solara owners that are active on a Toyota forum would like Toyota to be doing well selling all cars, especially the Solara to keep the line alive.

Greetings peeps...

I have a statement that I would like to make, "Can't we all just get along?"

Why should it matter if he or she likes your car? All that matters is what makes you HAPPY...

CHEESE :D

Take care guys! ***Smiling all da way to my car every time I walk to it and cheesing :D when I'm cruising in it...***

everyone is entitled to their own opinion. while one person may not agree with one another, just simply avoid each other at all costs.

if it really gets ugly, take it PM.
