oh man!!! i'm dying in NY! i wish it was nice enough to take my ride out and get it all cleaned up.

Question: How come certain rims have that backspin on them when they take off then they almost reverse and spin forwards? (e.g. - see 0:55 in the video - before MJ screams, lol) A friend and I were discussin that the other day. Is it the shape of the wheel that gives it that illusion? What is it specifically? - Addressed to anyone who knows...

Thanks for all the comments guys! Geeze I thought it was a camera thing. I never noticed it in person. I have no Idea. I think its the amount of spokes? I got 6.

don't forget to check out later tonight for some more clips.

Nope it's definitely not the amount of spokes cuz Porsche's do it and they've got those curved 5 stars. I always thought it might be the curve on a rim but urs are straight up and down.

Somebody's got to know!!!

to give a technical explanation, it has to do with the fps of the video camera. the camera only captures 28-32 frames each second, so its pretty much like 32 individual pictures. depending on what position the rim starts and what part of the frame the video camera is on, you can get different illusions. to illustrate this, hold a strobe light up to a moving ceiling fan. if you adjust the speed of the strobe light, you can get different illusions such as forwards, backwards, or completely frozen.

makes sense to me but how come it can be seen with the naked eye as well? i've seen it on the thruway - specifically it seems when people first take off or really step on the gas over 55 - almost as if it coincides with a gear change (which i know is purely coincidental)...

not to get into an overly scientific discussion (however this is interesting), but how does the human eye work to see that same illusion - is it almost like frames per second or no? because the rim is spinning but there's nothing else flashing to cut it up like ur strobe light and fan example.
