CD Problem

CD Problem

Postby pricem » Thu Mar 25, 2004 7:16 pm

I recently bought a 1999 solara sle with 10,000 miles on it (an older couple owned it as an auxilary car). I love the car, but the only problem is that the CD player either ejects the disk or gives an "err1" message until I've driven for 30-40 minutes. After that it works fine. Any thoughts?

Mine did the same thing, but even with newly brought CDs.

Same ERR1 message. I tried using that slot drive cleaner stuff, didnt work. And it just got worse over time. I used to be able to play a whole cd before it errored, then it was 3 or 4 tracks, til i couldnt even get thru 30 seconds of a song. This happened to me right after my 3 year warrantee was up. (Had about 30K on it)

I fixed it by getting a new headunit.

Well, you can take it in and have the laser and motor professionally cleaned and re-alligned, but why bother? It's cheaper and you'll get better sound quality if you get a nice aftermarket deck. Hang onto the stocker for when you sell the car.

Keep the stocker even with a busted CD reader? When you sell a car, you pretty much want to have everything workin in it.

I think i'd just toss the stocker, and just replace it with a used working stock from Ebay or something or a cheap aftermarket CD player if you decide to sell the car later on.

I kept my stocker but I'm not sure why. I think im just a packrat because my garage is full of broken stuff.

Someone can have my old one if they want it. Free Mary J. Blige cd stuck inside ;)

Edit: it's not broken, I just forgot to take it out and was too lazy to get it out after that.
