RCA level output adapter for stock head unit

RCA level output adapter for stock head unit

Postby nkx1 » Tue Mar 16, 2004 10:09 am

I was wondering if anyone can tell me where to find something like this. I don't want an adapter that converts speaker level to RCA, but rather an adapter that can obtain an RCA level output directly from the headunit. I know such an item exists for the '00 - '03 Acura CL, but I need one for Toyota ('99 Solara).

Thanks for any info you guys/girls have!

Almost sounds like radio specific item. What radio does the Acura have?

About all you can do is get a line-level (or line-output) converter. It hooks into your stock speaker leads, and has an RCA output, usually with some kind of gain control built in. Then you have to go find a switched (accy) power source in your vehicle to turn your amp on with the car.

:werd:

thats about all i can think about. I have installed them into a couple of my friends cars and they dont work bad. They have gain controls and level outputs.. so you can control the sound..

Best buy has it for like $15 bucks or you can look for ones online for cheaper...

I bought mine at Best Buy for $20/I must have missed the sale. :D
Here's what it looks like

I'm also adding an amp and subs to my stock deck. I want to splice the rear speaker wires from directly behind the deck. Where can I find a wire diagram that will tell me which wires are the rear ones? (I'm wondering if they will be the red/black that I can see on the rears, but I won't be pulling the deck again until this weekend)

Great! Do you remember the colors behind the deck are the right and left rear?

the wires behind the deck are marked, you should have no problems

What do you mean by marked because they only have little dashes of paint on them, no words? Hey HKSV6SLE, there's 4 wires from the inline converter: 2white (negs) and 2gray (positives) = which wires from behind the deck did you splice these into? Or if there is anyone that has a diagram or Haynes/Chilton Manual that can look up the rear speaker Right (pos/neg) and Left (pos/neg) color of wire that is behind the radio deck. Any help is greatly appriciated.

Just tap them off the rear speakers. The amp's most likely going in the trunk anyway. Then all you have to do is get switched power and a power line from the battery and run it back to the amp. You can get a harness and then a reverse harness from Best Buy, wire them together, and catch switched power there without having to cut anything behind the deck (and henseforth voiding you warranty). It'll cost like $35 but it's worth it, and makes life MUCH easier.

BTW - the switched power is the red wire on that aftermarket harness. It can be found all kinds of different places, but that's the easiest way for the masses.

Dont be cheap. IF you got the means to, buy a new h/u with AUX output on it and do it right. You'll get so much better sound quality, no hissing, and better range of amplification.
