Reverse Glow Gauges

Reverse Glow Gauges

Postby MGLax13 » Fri Jan 23, 2004 11:48 pm

I just received these gauges today from Pro Car Parts and installed them tonight. I havn't seen these on anyone elses Solara and I thought these were kinda nice because they are actually silver, not white faced. A nice feature these have is the ability to switch the lines between blue and green and you can make glow brighter or dimmer with a little control switch. I just set it to what I liked and hid the control switch behind the cluster with the epicenter since the wire was too short to mount it anywhere worth while.

See you also got your strobes in. I like those gauges, I was just looking at gauges myself, I've been playing around with different bulbs and plastic inserts but haven't gotten anything I really like, yet, although I've had the Razo bulbs in for a couple weeks and they're not that bad, I'm just wanting something blue to match the rest of my interior lighting.

Hmmm, which ones are those exactly? I've been toying with the idea of reverse gauges for a while, but I couldn't really find one that I liked; can't seem to find these on procarparts.com. Maybe I'm just slow...

Yup, thats my garage. I bought that engine as a little toy of mine. I like to take it out on weekends and on dates to impress the ladies....j/k We always have an open bay at the firehouse and since the windchill was -2 last night, I didn't want to do this install in my dark and cold drive way. While I had it in there, I washed the car too.

The only trouble they gave me was sliding the gauge face over the temp\gas needles. The other part that was a little annoying was positioning the epicenter and the color\brightness control in a position so that the cluster fit back in. I ended up sticking them behind these little metal peices that were all the way to the right and all the way to the left of the giant opening the cluster goes in. As for a ground, I used tehis bolt that was in the dead center of the opening, but towards the bottom. It's a gold colored bolt. It attaches the dashboard to the chassis of the car. The dashboard peice is plastic, but what I did was I took out the bolt, stuch the wire between the metal in the chassis and a metal washer, then the plastic from the dashboard and squished it all together witht he bolt.

I noticed you took all the bulbs out from behind it since the needles dont illuminate. Any reason you did that? Or did you solder it to a different line than the line that lights up the backlight bulbs?

MGLax13,
I like the look of it a lot. Just like other, I wonder about your needles's lights as well.
I recently put the TRD from Initial K in my car as well, but it's glowed the whole gauge though.
One more thing, I cut off the RPM gauge to show my security's light. Just wonder if your car has the security's light?
Image
Btw, the gauge is white at day. Could be switch from blue to green at night.
Image
and here is my TRD control under my sterling wheel, very easy to control the gauge.

Well, I like your look a lot, not too blue/green. I might order one from the Procarpart.

The needles lighting up is independent of the indiglo gauges. If you have the indiglos soldered to the wires that control the lights (Green/siver wire if I remember right), they should light up together. The needles lighting up is controlled by the bulbs in back of the gauges. (theres 5 of them, but you need to take one out to install the guages.)

I got a set from procarparts too, and I really like mine. I got the ones with the italisized numbers since I like that look better. What kind of annoys me a little is that the middle near the base of the needle on mine lights up this turquoise color. Id rather have that part of the guage not light up, and the ones you got don't. Id consider switching em out, but I really like the italisized numbers for some odd reason. I did a little extra customization with them tough. I'd share it with yall but 1) someone would probably steal my idea...and moreover 2) I dont got a digicam so I wouldnt be able to show you even if I wanted to.

Anyways I think I realized what he did. He probably just turned the factory gauge dimmer to the far position, which would dim off the backlighting and the needles, so he can better show off his new indiglo gauges.
