another solara owner in md :)

I would think having it repainted would be cheaper.
Wasn't there a rear bumper on ebay? I think the color was white.

Solanehart--I too was rear ended and to have the bumper replaced and painted it is going to cost (according to estimates) $800 to $1000. The damage is only to the bumper cover...it seems if I could find a painted bumper cover I could install it myself at about half the cost...but so far no luck :x

hmm... i think i would go repainted route as well. that way the paint shop will try to match the color of your car. the car color loses its factory paint color from all the sun abuse and slight discoloration from weather.

HOLY $h*t...$800 just to paint and replace the bumper....are you serious????? I had to replace my bumper twice cause of my unluckiness of gett'n rearended and both of those times put together was less than that!!! Seriously, this last time I had to replace it I bought a new bumper unpainted from Toyota down here and it was $190.00 and I got it painted and installed at a body shop for $150.00 So all together was less than $400.00 I can't understand why your estimate would cost so much unless you have some other work which needs to be done.

I really don't know why it's going to cost $800, one place quoted it at $1100! I think it's mainly the labor, but I don't think putting a bumper cover on is going to be all that difficult since that is the only work I need. Do you know where I can order a bumper cover for a 99 Solara? I see you live in Hawaii...I wonder if I could have one shipped....

Yea, you should be able to find one near you. Just go to your local dealer and ask the parts department. I bought mine from Motor Imports Hawaii which is the Toyota Service/Parts department down here.
