custom catback or Greedy etc.

I've searched the site over and over for the answer to my question but couldnt find an exact answer. Would i get better hp/Performance by just buying an aftermarket catback like say like Greedy or would it be better to get a custom one built with like a Blitz Nur spec muffler or Apex N1 muffler? I also dont want anything to loud which is why I'm leaning towards builing a custom because the BLitz Nur Spec muffler you can buy with a silencer. Performance along with price is my main concern. Greedy-~$500, Custom W/ Blitz Muff and silencer ~$250+45 and $100 for catback and installation. I got those prices here, http://www.import-trader.com/products/p ... uctid=2087. Thanks

Imo, i think your better off with the greddy. I have one and its not too loud. If your looking for something close to stock, why don't you go for the apexi ws. I've heard that its close to stock db's. I went with custom a few years back on my 92 camry, that was just way too loud. Just my 2 cents.......

well for one, custom may look/sound better, however performance may drop since pipping is not mandrel bent.

greddy/apex/jic are name brand and are machine made which i believe has the most beneficial air flow.

The place I went to, I told them I wanted mandrel bent tubing and they told me to find a place that sold the bends online, so I did that and i gave them the site. They ordered the neccesary bends (not too many in a Solara, pretty strait) and then used their pipping for the strait peices. In total, I paid $275 for my exhaust. I went the custom route to be different. I got a magnaflow muffler, a thrush resonator and it sounds lovely.

How does the sound actually sound like; is it deep and/or loud, soft etc or does it sound like cans rattling? Would it have the same outcome without a resonator?

id go with a custom using a magnaflow muffler.... do wat mglax did and find some mandrel online... and have a good shop install it for you... preferrably id take it to a reputable muscle car place that works with exhaust... They usually do the best jobs with custom exhausts......

I have a friend with a magnaflow catback on his car and it sounds damn right mean without alot of the drone...... good luck on your project as i am in the same boat with u too coz im trying to piece together an exhaust system for me too

Pretty much any muffler shop will be able to customize a cat-back for you. The one I went to didn't have a name brand muffler like greddy or apexi, but its really all the same, just a straight pipe with insulation around it and a removeable silencer. I got mine for 230 at a local shop here in fresno w/ 2.5" pipe and the muffler installed.
Nascar would be a sport if half the cars were driving the other direction.

just go to a shop and get the pipe custom bent, mandrel bending of course is better, tho unless your car is all race the cost may outweigh the benefits. hey is valley muffler still around?

Sounds real deep and low, I"m gonna try to get a clip of it. Doesn't sound like a mucle car, kinda sounds like a remus muffler setup on like a GTI or a Bimer. I went for this setup b\c I saw it on a SE-R and heard it and it sounded real nice. The resonator I tink is a definate must, or else it would probably be alot louder.

just wanted to say that listening to any particular muffler on any car will sound diferent from car to car and from engine to engine. so if you hear something that so8unds good on your friends civic for example, it will not sound the same on our solaras.

Dude, if your going with Greddy get it from this site... http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/ $464.00 before shipping. Your site has it @ $510.00 before ship. Can anyone else help this guy out with a better price on the Greddy? I'm contemplating getting that one next month. 8)
