Making my own box

Making my own box

Postby Grazi07 » Tue Dec 16, 2003 7:05 pm

I apologize for being such a post-whore, but I've had a bunch of questions lately. I'm going to be building my own box and would love as much info as I can get. I'm going to be running 2 Infinity 12" Ref. Series, prolly somewhere around 450 @2 ohms, not totally sure yet. I've read that in the past Peter built his own, with some specs from Prophesized, and if you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it. Anything from websites to carpeting to volume to ported vs. sealed is welcomed and useful. Thanks!

Crutchfield.com advisor They have a thing on boxes. Also, if you go to www.caraudioforum.com, there are alot of people there who can give you the right length to tune your ports, the right width of the port, the right box volume and everything.

Why not find out the specifications for the Infinity subs yourself and simply double the volume by enlarging dimensions of the box? Use 3/4" MDF for material, good wood glue with nails or screws to keep the box together, and silicone seal along all inside edges to eliminate any air leaks. When cutting the wood pieces, make sure you consider the 3/4" thickness of the MDF to the overall box dimension.

Luc, thats more or less what I was thinking of doing, but at the same time I'd like to modify it a little to make it fit the car better. My girlfriend's father is a contractor, so he offered to help me make it all pertty and nice, I just need to give him good dimensions and whatever other info I can dig up. Thanks for the websites.

If your g/f's father has a table saw, that would make the cuts very even and accurate. Make sure you do add some braces to prevent the box from flexing. Lastly, if you want to make it even nicer looking, use a 1/2" round router bit to trim the edges around the box.

Use metal "L" brackets inside to support the box. Use 3M industrial strength adhessive for the carpeting and staple the seam in the middle of the bottom. Don't skimp on the adheissive. If you recess the sides of the box, it will make a cleaner looking carpeting job.

you can call infinity and ask them how much volume would you need for your sub. that what my installer did for my focal sub.
