Door Panels: Component Speakers vs. Regular Speakers 2or3way

Postby SolaraT » Sun Dec 14, 2003 9:27 pm

I am not a car audio guru so if anyone would like to share an opinion on what would be best for our cars. I appreciate it very much. I am not looking to get any extra amp or subs in the trunk. I just want a good sounding system. I don't currently have the stock JBL system in my car; I have the regular POS head unit with POS speakers.

I have my preferences picked out in regard to the head unit and rear speakers but I am contemplating on the difference between a simple 2-way or 3-way 6 3/4 speakers or "Component" 6 3/4 speakers on the door panel. Before I buy I want to hear from you all & what experience you have with component speakers and whether or not I should get them.

Checkout my www and go to the bottom for my preferences. I don't have components selected because I have no experience with them and need feed back. Please help. Gracias!

Ok, just a couple of things. Get components as they offer much clearer base, and match them to the 6x9. Also, I am not sure that Pioneer is the best choice, as there as some better brands in the same price range, unless you have the hook-up somewhere.

Infinity, Polk, MB Quart, Memphis, Rockford Fosgate, and several other companies make great quality speakers and some of their "low end" speakers are about the same price as Pioneer's "high end" and would offer you a little better sound quality for a minimal increase in cost.

The component setup will offer you an adjustable crossover for controlling you bass / treble split. On a high-end system you can control the slope and the frequency, making your system more flexible to meet the needs of your car's interior acoustics.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Great info!! Yeah how about Pioneer does not even make components for our rides! At least I did not see them at cruchfield.com. I will go with RF. I heard great things about them. I might as well get RF 6x9 right. I hate to mix and match. Thanks guys! wao I would have never thought components were that much better. Thanks Solaraguy.com! da da dat da da... I'm lovin it!

Buddy of mine has the Kappa's in his Ranger they sound real solid. Personally, I like Polk, but most of the better brands are similar in quality versus price.

What do you guys think of this head unit. ? It requires direct connection to the battery with a 10 gauge amp wire. This is tempting as I am looking for the best sound without going with external amps and subs. So far this is the best "27 watts RMS/60 peak x 4 channels" I can find with a reputable company. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-RM ... 500CDA9813

That's a nice headunit, just shop around for a better price than crutchfield.

Put one (at least I think it was this model number) in a friend’s Neon about 2 months ago. He's a very happy camper :D. He is using a PPI amplifier though, so I don't know about the quality of the internal amp. The pre-outs are clean though.
