CAPACITOR vs. EXTRA BATTERY

CAPACITOR vs. EXTRA BATTERY

Postby LOO_SILL » Sat Dec 13, 2003 10:23 pm

I have a nice system in my car but just as any other system, my amp is pulling from my battery causing my lights to flicker. I was thinking about installing a capacitor then a friend told me about the system batteries that they have out. (second battery to supply power to the system) Should I put in an extra battery for my amp or should I go with a capacitor. Any suggestion? and please explain...Thanx.

The extra battery is alot more work, but alot more effective. A cap will discharge really fast, so it's not the best option for long duration bass competitions. You could also upgrade the battery under the hood to a yellow top. It’ll give you a lot less headaches, and decent results.

Im pulling a lil over 1650watts rms @ 13.1volts (slowly killing my alt.) with my MTX and iuno say 30 x6 for my alpines and i got 2 Rockford caps... didnt phase the dimming untill i dim the internal lighst and flip my face so the display turns off. Long story short, if you are serious i would go with a more powerful alternator like others have.

I agree that for big time stereos you need the alternator, however if I read right he's only pushing a MTX 404 and deck power. That shouldn't need a beefed up alternator. I have been pushing about 600 watts RMS for the last 3.5 years on all stock stuff. I just updated my battery tonight though b/ the weather was taking a toll on it :).

I them I am understanding that because of the minor load I currently have, I will be fine with a cap...is that right?
