Engine won't turn off!
I went to pick up some food today and when I went back to my car and turned the key, i noticed a somewhat high pitch noise coming from the engine bay.
So my first reaction was to turn the engine off.
However when I turn the key to the off position, you can still hear the engine still running but it's slightly quieter, but running.
Everything was off including the tachometer.
So I pulled the key out, everything electrical was off except for the engine...
However when I place the key back in and into the acc position, the tachometer sweeps to my normal idle rpm.
I placed the key to off and acc many times and didn't want to crank the engine while the engine was still running since that might ruin my starter.
So I place the key back into the acc position and drove around the parking lot for a while and eventually the high pitch noise disappeared.
I turned the key to the off position and the engine finally turned off!
Has this ever happened to anyone before?
I ruled out my starter since it works fine but I think it might be my ignition switch?
Is this a sign that it's failing prematurely and should I replace it?
Any input will help, thanks!
