Yo I just got a 2001 SLE a couple days ago.

It didn't come with a Keyless remote but it's equipped for it. It also only came with 1 real key. The spare won't start the car.

The driver side door also doesn't respond to the key. I have to unlock from the passenger side.

What are my best/cheapest options? The driver side door thing is really just an inconvenience and won't be a problem if I can get another keyless remote. I read that I can buy a transponder key off of eBay, but the links from that thread were outdated.

Halp!

CLIFFNOTES
-Car is equipped for keyless entry but I don't have the remote. How can I replace it?

-Car needs a spare key. How can I replace it without spending heller money at a dealership?

the remote is the easiest. you can buy one from ebay and program it yourself. You can buy the transponder key and I've heard of people programming it themselves as well, but I bought the transponder key and had toyota program it. wasn't too bad.

look under the dash. . usually to the left of the pedals & you'll see a black box with a harness plugged into it.
Right around the fuse box area at least thats how mine is.

Alright well I somehow managed to set off my stock alarm today so i'm pretty sure I have keyless hahaha. Guess I just need to get the remote. Thanks for the input. Any recommendations on where to get the remote?

Iight been looking around eBay. Seems there's a distinction between factory installed keyless and dealer installed keyless. Does that apply to my 01 SLE?

So I got a keyless remote off eBay for $30 and programmed it with no issues. Thumbs up SG!

I also got a transponder key off eBay and had it cut. I tried programming it using the pedal dance method but no luck. Anyone have experience with the subject?
