EGR delete ??

Postby SleeperSolara » Wed May 18, 2011 12:34 pm

Has anyone on here tried to delete the EGR system, and trick the ECU??
I've read up and was wonderin' has anyone done this??
I would like to hear or see how you did it.
Thanks.

no there is no way to trick the egr position sensor. the temp sensor can be tricked. but you will get still get the insufficient egr flow code. i am not sure if it causes the ecu to pull timing or not.

You can take out the egr system without causing the ecu to pull timing, but there's no way to cancel the CEL. I yanked mine when i installed the s/c (no emissions testing where i live) and havent had any problems.

I see.
Well i read somewhere you can use a resistor to cancel out the CEL......

The circuit is more complex than just a resistor.
The EGR valve will open and close according to the running conditions of the engine.
So, like Gabe said the position sensor can't be tricked...easily. I'm sure someone with a lot of time could
come up with a black box of sorts to cure the CEL. I'd like to do a proper EGR delete.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Yeah that would be cool if someone came up with that but I know toyota's ecu's are a proprietary system so its kinda tough to do anything...I just wish someone can figure out a way to crack the code...ya know..

I totally think someone could come up with a way to trick the comp into believing the EGR was working.

But I don't doubt it would require someone with experience in circuit boards, programming, and also would require taking voltage readings of several EGR related voltages to come up with a system that worked.

I run my car without any of the EGR systems hooked up. i'd recommend leaving the EGR valve actually on the car with the temp sensor hooked in, and just blocking off the exhaust and removing the EGR pipes.
