235/45R17s on gen 4. Will they fit?

As the title states, I'm wanting to run 235/45R17s on my gen 4 camry. A friend just offered me a used set of re-11s at a great price and id like to pick them up. I know this would be a suitable size to run as it's only off the stock circumference by 1 %. However, I'm concerned about rubbing, moreso on the struts. My car is currently lowered with Eibach springs on Tokico struts. I was planning to run a 17X7.5 wheel and most likely it would be in a 45 mm offset. Would this be sufficient clearance or do I need a lower offset wheel? Would spacers possibly be enough if the offset just needs to be slightly lower. Seems to be hard to find lightweight 17 inch wheels in a lower offset

I run 235/50/17's all around (Bridgestone Potenze RE960's) on my gen 2 with the TRD drop. I would think you should have no problem. BTW, Bridgestone Potenza's are pretty HEAVY carcass TIRES... (I've recently found...) so as MUCH as I like them, I may be seeking tires that are 3~6lbs LIGHTER that are similarly well rated and priced for my next round...

G/L!

I have 235/45R17's on my gen 1. My wheels are from a Acura TL, 17x8 with 45mm offset. Fenders in the rear are rolled, 10mm spaces on the rear. Lowered on Eibach and Tokico. No rubbing on the struts.

I'm running tsw revo 17x8
40 offset with a 20mm
project kics spacer only in the rear. Tires are 235/45/17 Dunlop DZ101. I rolled and pulled the rear quarter panels though.

Not sure how the RE11s weigh compare to the Potenzas you have but it's worth it for the grip they provide. The RE-11 is run by many of the top autocrossers who run Street tire index or in the various street touring classes. Those, the Direzza star specs, and Hankook RS-3s seem to be the top street tire to run right now. I know Toyo makes one as well but forget what model it is. Anyway, I'm getting these RE11s for 50 bucks so I'm not gonna turn that down at all.

FTW: If you didn't have the spacers in the rear would your tires rub you think? Also, are the close to touching the fenders or would I be fine not rolling?

Greg: Is the spacer needed for yours to not rub as well.

I guess I'm curious as to whether the spacers are required not to rub for you guys or if you're doing it to make the tires look more flush with the body. I'm not too concerned with that long as clearance and practicallity aren't sacrificed

I appreciate the quick feedback guys.

Cartang, just saw your response on TN. You say you shaved your fenders. What exactly do you mean by that? Would rolling do the same effect? And running any spacers?

With out the spacer in the rear only, the tire/rim does rub the coilover.

Yes, without the spacers the tire and wheel were rubbing on the strut. I only got the spacers because of the rubbing. I wasn't going for any flush look

With the 235's it would hit the fender over bumps or dips so I had to roll it.

I greatly appreciate this feedback guys. I think I still wanna go through with it but glad to know the prep needed. I found enkei rpf1s in 35 mm offset so I should hopefully not need to run spacers at least.

This is funny TMMK, because for a second I thought you might actually be looking at the same wheels and tire size that I'm looking at buying!! The ones I'm looking at have an offset of 42, however. They are recommended by TireRack.com as an option for the 2000 Camry, so I assume that means they will fit. I think I was planning to go with the same tire size. Whatever the tire size I choose, it was the one that the Tire Calculator said was the widest that would fit on a 7.5" wide wheel and have almost the same overall tread diameter as stock tires.

Check out these wheels I'm planning to buy... But I call FIRST DIBS!!!

If I also run 235/45/17 tires on a wheel that is slightly wider (17x8.5) would that cause anymore problems? or is it basically the same issues since its the same tire size?

I just got some rims that are 17x8.5 with a 40 offset. I'm trying to figure out what tire size and wheels spacers i'm going to need without rolling fenders, if that is possible. I was thinking of going with the 235/45/17 tires and 5 or 10 mm spacer in the rear. Any input on this setup?

Thanks

rear will hit your strut with 17x8.5 40 offset. you need at lease a 20mm to clear the strut trust. front should be fine, if youre rocking bbk you will need a 5mm spacer depending on the face of your wheel.

^^^ Damn, guys! Those would look GREAT on the Supra in Gunmetal! (What do you guys think?)

...of course... I'd want them in at LEAST 8" width, preferably 9" rear if not 10". I'll check into them as 18's and see what they offer, as the price is so cheap compared to the HIGH DOLLAR rims I have looked at previously.

PICS from whoever puts them on the Solara first!
