i recently decided to change out my struts and i cheaped out and just got the struts themselves and when i replaced them i noticed noise coming from them kinda like clunking which i decided is because i didnt change out the strut mounts, i ordered them and was about to chenge them when i noticed the lower spring insulators were pretty worn im gonna have to order those now too but what i wanted to know is there just a lower spring insulator or is there one above the spring too? thanx in advance

I dunno, but here are 2 alternatives:

In the past with other cars, I goto home depot and get clear hose that fits over the coils. It's in the fridge section, the tube that feeds the fridge freezer ice maker. They're flexible, cushiony, don't freeze or get brittle with temp or UV light.

Ann alternative is coil wire wrap from radioshack. They're used to organize electrical wires. I never went this route, but have seen others do it.

Quickly looking into this again, here's a pic i found online, hope it helps. source MAGAUTO.com

Image

1) Knuckle Right 2) Bolt Bolt Back 3) Lower cntrl arm Right
4) Bushing Bushing Back 5) Stopper Stopper Back 6) Ball joint Back
7) Nut Nut Back 8) Strut Right 9) Nut Nut Back
10) Coupe 2.2 liter Manual trans Back 11) Upper insulator Back 12) Lower insulator Back
13) Bumper Back 14) Upper seat Back 15) Bearing Back
16) Strut mount Right 17) Nut Nut Back

I'm not sure why the word "Back" appears so much in these part descriptions, get what you can from it.

Now that i see this pic, i think i remember the upper insulator, i think it was the strut boot, two parts in one, im not 100% sure. Gregtrd?

The mounts are the problem.
if you dont already have a tool to compress the springs, count in the cost of renting or buying tools for that.
and if the boots are not torn i would not replace the upper insulators, the only reason i replaced my upper insulators on the rear was because the boots were torn and i didnt want to ruin my new struts.
