Gen 1 Projector Retrofit

Gen 1 Projector Retrofit

Postby I113GAL » Tue Jan 25, 2011 9:06 pm

Whats up yall
Ive been thinking for a while about doing some projector retros on the 99 V6 I just bought.
Ive never attempted a retrofit before but I feel pretty comfortable tearin my headlights out and tryin this. :drinking:
I was thinkin about this setup

-Morimoto D2S (I heard they were pretty easy to work with).
-McCulloch 5000k Hids i found for about $100
-And a E46 shroud.

I thought about about painting the reflector and whole housing black or just the shroud.
Whats everyones opinion or advice? Like I said im a big nub to all of this.

Doesn't sounds too bad man.
I would suggest gettin' some real D2S bulbs and Lexus denso ballasts.
The E46 shrouds would look nice, but you would need to cover the sides little i think to make it look clean.
Check out some vacuum formin' stuff, that will cover everythin'.

Also let me know if you need some E46 shrouds.
I have the replica ones.

Yea im going to look for some better HIDS. I was just trying to save a little $$. Someone Said the Morimoto MH1 Would be a better fit? What do you think? Let me get back to you on those shrouds how much u thinkn on those puppies?

[EDIT] Just checked out those denso ballasts and damn are they pricey! What would be your cheaper alternative?

do your research before jumping it. its not really that hard, but its not easy either. mounting and fitting is a PITA, and i honestly dont think i would every do a retro.
some very nice projectors:
sc430
s2k
ls430(wide beam, probably wont fit though)
tsx with clear lenses
tl with clear lenses

those are the most popular from what ive seen.

***UPDATED***
Just got the projectors in. Went with the morimoto mini h1 projectors with mini gatling shrouds. Im going to try to fit some p1 projectors in there too for the drl's for a quad setup. Painted the oem headlights completely black, with 70mm ccfl on the shrouds. Took quite a bit of time but shes almost finished! :morning: Heres a few pics.

Yeah I think I am going to go with some leds in the fogs too probablly some white ones. Yours look pretty pimpin, Im just wondering if the lenses will be clear enough if i sand both sides down a little. Btw is that a renova DaZan looks fn cleeeen.
