recurring airbag warning light?

recurring airbag warning light?

When I first bought this car, the airbag warning light was on and the dealer said he would replace the sensor. That got rid of the light, but every once in a while when someone stuffs something under the passenger seat of pushes it forwards/backwards with enthusiasm, the light comes back.

If I shut off the car, wiggle some wires under there, and restart it, it goes away for awhile. Its not a huge concern but since y'all are usually able to help I figured I'd ask.

Send me a PM tomorrow to remind me to look this up. I think there's a TSB for it. In the PM, tell me year, trim, engine, and tranny. Don't PM me tonight!!! Gotta be tomorrow so I see it tomorrow.

Awww crap... I had some time and started looking up airbag light stuff. This's for 04-08. Maybe take a look at it, see if it helps you. I'll find something else related to 1st gens.

That one says to reset the light, you have 3 options:
1) Unplug the battery for a while
2) Reset by jumping 2 wires
3) Use OBD2 scanner (not sure if this reads airbag lights though)

Is there a prize for having a high post count? If so I want in :D

This only happens when something moves the wires under the passenger seat. Theres a ton of plugs under there, and when I wiggle all the wires it goes away. Doesn't a loose connection seem like the most likely culprit? I could just undo each plug and clean all the contacts...

undo each plug and plug back in, that alone may fix it. my old explorer had power window failure one day and i took the door panel off and disconnected a plug, checked for voltage from the switch, then plugged it back in, it magically worked again and kept working for a year before i sold the vehicle. when working with the airbag system you should really use caution.

"Work must be started 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the ”LOCK” position and
the negative (–) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery.
(The SRS is equipped with a back–up power source so that if work is started within 90 seconds
from disconnecting the negative (–) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may be deployed.)"

"The SRS may be deployed." <--- Holy crap!!!

minig646, lemme know the details of your car. There is another TSB regarding the wires under the passenger seat. It didn't specifically talk about SRS or airbags, but it regards wiring.

Sure, its a 1999 SLE V6 (1MZ-FE)

125,000 miles, everything else works perfectly. As of now there is no light, and there probably wont be unless I mess with that seat again.

Thanks
