Postby verbina » Tue Feb 15, 2011 1:16 pm

Hello my 2000 Solara has an oil leak by the timing Chain! That is all I was told. I am wondering if I should put the money in to have it fixed they tell me they have to take the engine out to fix it because of the location of the leak!. The smell is so irritating to me and Im about just buy a new car it still drives really smooth but it has 191,000 miles on it

Welcome!!!
I'll give you $500 for the Solara.

Have you gotten a second opinion from a different shop?
It will help you make the decision.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

have u had ur timing belt done? my old motor leaked from the cam seal right behind the timing belt. i never replaced it cause i never cared enough lol. but if you're doing your timing belt soon (i hope ur not on the oem one still!) then that would be the PERFECT time to replace the cam seal. another common leak are the valve cover gaskets. otherwise, welcome aboard and keep that lara! she'll do you well, and save u money over a new car.. about 1k to maintain the car or about 15k+ for a new car? hmm..
are avalons supposed to be this fast?
