Brake light problemo

Brake light problemo

Postby PEITRUS » Sun Oct 19, 2003 5:23 pm

My parking brake light keeps on turning on for a while and the turns off,and then turns back on and then off, etc etc, all at different times. this usually happens when i am in motion. ive tried lifting the parking brake up and then putting it back down, but it still wont turn off, eventaully it does turn off, but its kinda annoying when it turns on whenever it wants. ive even tried hitting the dash but that didnt help much but hurt my solara's feelings. has this happened to anyone else?...or does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I had that same problem where the brake light came on and off. The tank looked full but I added a little bit of fluid and the brake light went away and hasn't come back since.

your brake pads themself may be running low.

If it looks full, it may not be, because the fluid holder has both front and back.

Check how much pad is left also.

I agree. I had this problem and noticed that It would turn on when I would make left turns. Especially in the mornings. I added brake fluid due to it being lower then normal and it went away. LOL I did the same thing at first with the emergency brake! That did nothing but get me more PO! Good Luck!

Brake Light Problem Went Away!

Postby solarafan » Wed Dec 31, 2003 6:59 am

My brake light came on intermittently, but eventually it stayed on quite often. I was going to go to the dealership to have my parking brake checked. Following the advice of people on this forum, I filled up the reservoir to the Max level. The light did turn off. The interesting thing is, the fluid level was between the Max and Min levels, but apparently the level needs to be higher.

I just wanted to say how great this forum is!

My brake light had come on again and I had to top off the reservoir again. The fluid was between the max/min levels, but apparently, the level has to be at the max level in order for the light to go off.

i would replace the parking brake shoes.
i did this on my car along with topping off the fluid many months ago and its fine ever since.
i did have trouble installing the new parking brake shoes, it seems they were too thick, i couldnt even beat the rotor with a hammer over these new shoes, the rotors just would not fit over the new shoes (and yes the shoes were adjusted all the way closed and the parking brake handle was in the released position), i ended up having to use the lug nuts to slowly force the rotor over the new shoes. then i drove up and down the street and let the damn things burn until the car rolled like normal (at first it was like driving with the parking brake engaged). after some very nasty smell from the rear brakes (and probably some dangerous asbestos in the air from the shoes) the brakes work great and the light never came back on.

this probably saved me at least a hundred bucks. I wish I read this before taking apart my calipers and inspecting everything BUT the fluid. My reservoir reads as though it's filled high enough, but i'm going to try topping it off like what you folks have said.
