Why my front rims stick out with +40? :S

Postby mig0s » Sat Jan 01, 2011 5:02 pm

So when I bought my rims few months ago I noticed it but it wasn't that bad since I had small tires (215/40/18). Now I recently put on some 225/45/18 to kill the gap and be more comfortable but my front rims stick out like half an inch from my fenders!

My rims are 18x8 +40 lowered with Teins and I've seen many people here with similar setup and their front rims are inside their fender. In my rear I have 5mm spacers and they are perfect but I can't stand the front from some angles.

Hopefully when I put my lip kit on (heheheh) it will show less. I have the side skirts and the rear, and now waiting for the CL lip :)
BTW, I just installed my Injen and took my car out for a ride since it has been stored for more than a month already and DAMN I'm in love with the sound :D Especially at WOT! Bonus pics:

I've had tinted tails for quite a while lol! But I have to add one or two layers of clear coat before winter's over. I've also ordered a perfect condition passenger side headlight to replace my scratched and yellowed (from the interior) one. I'll attempt to do the black housing to my headlights then look up to your black housing corner light tutorial :P I'm scared to break them though.

The front track on most any car is always wider than the rear. now that you've upped the tire width/sidewall, it's more noticeable. Some camber bolts to dial in a bit of negative camber (along with a proper alignment) should do the trick.

Isn't negative camber gonna eat the tires from inside really quick, even with a proper alignment?

Toy1mzfe (the discoverer of the CL lip) has the TRD sides/rear on.

Yeah all credits go to Toy1mzfe for that awesome discovery.

I'm willing to try other front lips if I had some.. And my car would look somewhat like Toy1mzfe and DSM_Lara's but I'm murdering it out. Black body, black rims, black interior, black housing headlights/corner, tinted tails. Oh and yellow fogs and yellow calipers ;) Black and yellow that's the combination you know!

BTW Krispy, if you look at Toy1mzfe's picture above, I believe these Lexus wheels are 18x8 +40 or +35 also. And his front wheels are an inch closer to the struts than mines... I wonder what's going on :(

Krispy, I'm getting slightly smaller front tires. Do you think 215/45/18 or 225/40/18 would look less sticked out? Personally I would go with the 215 series...

205/45/18 would be better suited if you want the tire to look a little more tucked.. due to 45 series side wall on a 18" rim its going to look more bulky... I would have just stuck with 225/40 instead or 215/40

Yes I know, but with the 40 series I have like 2 inches of gap between my rear wheels and fenders even though I'm lowered with springs, and that's ridiculous...

225/40/18 then, that's what I'm running now, though I'll likely move to 205/35s when I push my wheels out more.

As far as the rear fender gap, that's why I went with Eibach Pro-Kit rear springs. They match the gap that Tein S-Techs give you up front.

Maybe your wheels are just manufactured differently that moves the wheels out.

I still have my Eibach Prokits rears I need to install soon. Might acutally cut a bit of the dead springs up front...

looks like good progress. something's definitely gotta be done about those wheels stickin out though. looks hella goofy haha but I do know what you mean by smaller tires augmenting the gap. With my stock wheels I could barely fit a finger in there but I have smaller tires on a new set of wheels that make it look like it was barely lowered! The pro side of it is that smaller tires also make your car lower to the ground. works both ways. :)
