Full Size Spare .... will it fit in the trunk well?

Full Size Spare .... will it fit in the trunk well?

Postby MetrowestLara » Mon Jul 26, 2010 1:14 pm

I did a search but didn't come up with a positive answer on this. Will the Gen 1 Solara fit a full size spare tire in the trunk's wheel well? I have to replace three of my four tires and since I don't want to throw away a tire with good tread life I want to convert it to my spare. I hate the emergency tires they use. If the wheel well will accommodate a full size tire this it what I plan on doing. I'll also be in the market for a Gen 1 16" rim if anyone has one. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know. Thanks.

yes it will....I'm not sure about the base model solaras, but the SLE and v6's all came with full-sized spares I believe (15" steelie with an all-season tire)

pretty sure my sle came with a 16" full size spare. (ive seen it a few times but never actually looked at the tire size)
its definitely not just steel, it looks the same as the other 4.

My car came with a full size spare and it's a SE V6 model.

All Gen. 1 & 1.5 Solara's have full size spares consisting of either a 15" spare on a steelie for SE models and either a 16" alloy spare or steelie for SLE models. I don't think a 17" rim will fit as it never came equipped with them from the factory.

I think Sleeper has a 17" spare in the trunk which is the TSW Revo. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

TSW Revo's are aftermarket factory add-on's.

You can shove a 17" Revo in the trunk but the board to cover the tire will not fit flush over it along with the thing that screws down to hold the tire in place.

yea im missing that piece to hold the spare wheel down. only bad thing about buying used cars.
i believe my 18" rims would almost fit. with the low profile tires they are smaller than the factory wheels and spare.
problem is my 18's are 2 inches wider than stock, like i said... almost.
but as far as the op... a full size spare will definitely fit if your talking about the stock wheels.
