So many CEL codes at once.

So many CEL codes at once.

Postby vman5911 » Sun Jul 04, 2010 12:15 pm

I have a 2000 V6 Solara. Initially, I got a check engine light indicating that my EGR valve was probably faulty and that the position sensor was faulty as well. Soon after, I began to get error codes indicating that the oxygen sensor and air/fuel sensors were probably faulty. Soon after that, I started to get the Closed Loop Fuel circuit coolant temp insufficient code. Add that to random cylinder misfirings and you have a very, very frustrated person with a car that isn't running very well :(

I'm at a loss here, guys. It's starting to get to the point where I don't even know where I should start. Any advice would be immensely appreciated.

start from the first code you got, work around the egr, see if u find anything wrong, pull the neg off the battery and reset the ecu and drive a bit. When i took my s/c off i ended up with like 14 codes. Some where like intake and egr and mass air blah blah. ended up i didnt tighten one bolt on my throttle body.. all well now! its probably one thing that spawned into a million little killer baby codes.
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

Change your spark plugs and wires and do a Seafoam treatment if you haven't done this in a long time. Check your vacuum hoses for leaks or crud build-up. Is the CEL flashing?

The CEL flashes on occasion, but it doesn't happen often. The spark plugs are probably a good idea. Haven't changed those in a while. I recently seafoamed the engine, so I shouldn't have to do it again.

I had bad plugs and went thru similar things. Change the wires too. They get old and cracked...

Denso double platinum is widely recommended close to original equipment.

The ones in the back are a pain to get to. I have the Chilton manual...any recommendations to get back there, or do I just work through the awkwardness?

someone said they could do it without getting the header off, i couldnt. I'd just take it in, 100 bucks for a tune up is dirt cheap compared to the time you'll spend messing with those headers.

i just had the egr valve replaced as well.

good luck

The rear spark plugs are somewhat weird, but you can work your way around stuff if you have a small arm.
