Aftermarket source for latch on Solara convertible

Postby average_guy » Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:13 pm

I have a 2001 Solara convertible. The other day, I was opening the driver's side latch on the convertible roof and the latch broke at the pivot point and came completely off in my hand. I stopped by the local Toyota dealer when I was out but the parts department was closed, so before I go back there I'm wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket source for this part. Does anyone know if this is a common problem or a recall item? The car has only 82,000 miles on it. Thanks for any help that anyone can give!

First I've seen of the problem for any gen. I doubt there's an aftermarket demand for such a part.
Moving to Gen1 section.

Salvage yard or dealer might have the part available, then. Thanks! :infinity:

supersoldier: When you open those latches, do you pull down on the handle in the middle to relieve tension? I know the handle is there to help seat the top when latching it down, but I'm thinking that in order to avoid this type of problem in the future maybe I should pull down on the handle before attempting to release the latches. Any thoughts? Thanks!
