Could you be more specific? On my Corolla, the line just goes straight from the master clutch cylinder to the slave cylinder. The piece in between seems to serve no purpose.
I'm guessing it must lower the pressure or maintain the pressure when the clutch isn't pressed or something. The book calls it a "clutch accumulator" but doesn't bother to explain what that means.

personally, when I did my swap...i bypassed it completely. however gibson told me its actually kind of important. I havent driven my solara enough to know if i should use it or not. But so far my car works without it.

BTW i have read that king does not use it either and bypassed it. hope this helps...

an accumulator is kind of a storage,
it stores energy in this case (or power),
whether or not you really need that extra energy in your clutch i dont know,
apparently toyota thought it was needed.

check out this link for some interesting info on the subject:

yeah, it's the clutch accumulator...some theorize that it can make clutch engagement easier since it will allow a bit of pressure to build before atively disengaging the clutch

and yes, I bypassed mine when I did my 5-speed swap as well since the lines going to it were all seized. No difference in performance
