I'm having the same problem right now with my '00 convertible, did you find anything to help with your low idle problem?

Mine does the same thing sometimes. I have a stick shift so I don't notice it as much, because I just give it a bit of gas when it happens.

It will do it very randomly and seems to only when the engine is warm. The engine will drop down to 750rpm.... which is way too low and it will kind of knock/chug sound at that low an rpm.
Its worse when the AC is on because that puts some drag on the engine. It never stalls but it feels like it is about to sometimes.

I never really looked into it because it hasent bothered me much because it doesnt happen very often.

My MR2 Spyder does this. I do think there is something wrong, it's just not that serious. All of the suggestions here are good. I think the ECU is setting the idle due to a sensor input and that sensor may be out a little. Try cleaning all the relevant sensors like your AFM or MAF or MAP, whichever applies. Be careful, though. You have to use the right cleaner on those. Check the IAC circuit, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, evap system, etc.

On a different note: You only get 23-25 mpg on the 4 cylinder? We get that on my wife's 6 cylinder Solara. Actually, I have a heavy foot and get about 24 in town. My wife gets about 26 in town and we both use the cruise control at 78 mph (70 mph if any cops are reading this) and we both get 28 to 29 mpg on the highway.

I don't want to turn your thread into an mpg thread, but maybe poor gas mileage indicates there IS a problem somewhere.
