Car Issues I need help

Car Issues I need help

Postby supersoldier » Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:50 am

I really love my convert solara and I wanna keep modding it. You guys are great motivators and teachers. NowI have a few mods on my 2k SLE; injen intake, remote start/alarm system, full aftermarket stereo system, lowered and a few cosmestics. Before I mod it further I have some issues and no clue where they are coming from and Im worried my car may have some serious issues, mechanical or electrical.

1. My dash lights go out when i put the car into DRIVE. They are on when I am in the P,R,N,2,1 positions.

2. I have been smelling this sulfar smell in my car for a long while now, about a year and a half. Even though Ive barely driven it in the last year.

3.Intense shaking especially when Im braking. I was told that I may need my rotors resurfaced which I havent had a chance to look into yet.

4. My battery keeps dying and I have no clue why.

Im looking for any help I can get. If I cant figure out the issues here Ill take it to a dealership but Im concerned they will blame the issues on my mods and just waste my time and money.

1. The bulb is burnt out. Just open it up and replace with a T5 bulb.

2. Is the sulfur smell all the time or only when it's hot?

3. I would agree with the resurfacing.

First Thank you for your response.

1. If the bulb was burnt out would it still turn on when im in every gear but DRIVE.

2. No I belive I smell it all the time, I dont drive it much right noe but will be driving more very soon. I had the cat replaced last year because it had some type of issue. Mechanic said something like the fuel was pooling there or something. lol Im a Soldier not mechanically inclinded but I can take apart and put back together most weapons blind folded.

3. Thank you Ill get right on it. Should I take the whole car to the shop and let the take off the rotors or should i take them off and take them in?

Each one of the little symbols have their own bulb. So there are 6 little bulbs for the gears. The one for the D is burnt out probably because that bulb is the one that's used the most.

Take the entire car to the shop and let them do it.

As for your battery, I think your alternator may be going bad. As a quick check, start your car and then while it's on, unplug the positive of the battery. If the car stops or is sputtering, then your alternator is dead or is dying. Just buy an alternator on ebay for the Highlander. I got mine for only $60 shipped and it's a good excuse to upgrade the wimpy 80amp alternator to the highlander's 130amp.
