Brake Pad Rub

Brake Pad Rub

Postby Solorange » Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:16 pm

Do brake pads constantly touch the rotors when the brakes are not applied? I only ask because when I drive with the windows down at slow speeds I can hear a sound which sounds like the pads are just lightly touching the rotors. It makes sense in my mind, but just curious if its normal I hear that sound.

Check to see that the metal clips holding the pads are not rubbing the rotor, that was happening to me recently.

i do not hear the brakes. could just be a difference of pads and rotors as i've replaced mine. got lifetime warranty rotors and pads from napa, the pads are different than anything i've used before, there is an inner pad and outer pad and they are slightly different and you have to intall them correctly. they seem pretty good tho, not much dust, stop well.

They're not suppose to be touchin'.
Do you have the OEM single piston calipers??
The OEM calipers don't have wire clips.
The twin piston calipers have little wire clips that help keep the brake pads apart.

I have oem single piston calipers with toyota pads and brembo blanks for rotors. My clip isn't rubbing and I get very little brake dust. They stop good too! Nothing is wrong. I just hear the slight noise especially when passing parked cars in the street. I figured its normal, but just wanted to check with all of you.

Oh, ok.
Hmmm....
Have you tried puttin' the car p on jack stands and spinnin' the wheel to see where the noise is comin' from??
