Lock and/or Key Issue???
Bought a 2K SLE over weekend- and didn;t realize it until yesterday that keys don't match.
I have the Black shrouded chipped key for ignition- it does NOT work in any door or trunk. It will insert- but will not turn.
I was given two "regular" keys- that work in trunk and doors. They will insert into ignition- but will not turn.
Since I was not given any remotes- I will need both keys to get into car and go.
Since there is Zero service history with Toyota since 32K(it now has 133K)- I have no idea what was done. I theorize that the ignition cylinder may have been changed- since that key no longer operates anything else? What would be my easiest way out of this mess?
I want to get another key made for the ignition- but if I have a key CUT at Toyota by VIN# I might get a key that works on the locks only but not ignition. Does changing out the ignition cylinder have any effect on the chipped key(other than physically being able to turn)?
Anyone got an inexpensive source for key blanks or remotes? Checked E-Pay and found one place in China.
Thx
