Ok so Im planning to buy a 99 solara next week in US and i live in canada (2 hrs away). I been reading info about it and it kinda gives me a headache haha. And I read saying that I cant bring the car to canada right away as documentations and the vehicle must be presented to customs 72 hrs before export? :o And I have to show proof if this vehicle was ever a recall or not WTF LOL. #1: Send a PM on the forum to Eye8Pussies
He went to NY University and bought a Solara while he was here, and then brought it back T.O.. He can help out a bit with info.

#2: As for recalls, give me the VIN from the car, and I will get the recall info, as well as documentaion on Toyota Letterhead stating that all recalls have been performed (or if they weren't, I'll let you know so you can have it done).

Hey, send me a pm if you have any specific questions. I went about the importation process a little bit different than the norm, but it was mostly the same.

It's actually quite a hassle.

Also, where are you located? And what are the specs of the solara that you want to import?

If you're in the Toronto area and want a nice solara, my sis is actually selling her supercharged 2000 sle w/ the trd body kit. Send me a pm if you're interested in that either.

yup yup...that it was....but with a bit more stuff on it afterward though of course. That trip down to MD in the solara was its acid test after I picked it up from NJ less than 24 hours before the drive down :D

Ah, that black solara.

You can always call RIV directly for more information as well. The most complicated part of getting the vehicle over since you want to drive it home, is dealing with the temp plates since the law in every state and province is different. I had an extremely hard time trying to get a temp plate in new York, so I ended up just driving my car back on my actual new York plates.

Yup... You just have to fax it to them. And then make sure that you has the original documents and a proof that you had faxed it to them 72 hours prior.

technically....yes....or you might be able to get the seller to do it if you ask them very nicely....

for me, it wasn't such a big issue since I lived down there at the time.....
