Auto Trans Light. Not turning ON? [Again]

Auto Trans Light. Not turning ON? [Again]

Postby DSM_Lara » Sat Mar 27, 2010 6:58 pm

I know there's one in the gauge cluster to show you what gear your on but, this is now bothering me. My dam light on my Auto Trans does not turn ON near the shifter. :( Sometimes when I give it a few wacks it does but, now it doesn't. So, I know it's not the bulb and does anyone know how I can fix this without bringing it to the dealership. Please anything would be a help. I like everything in my car to be working so this one little light is bothering me.

Pull up the little plastic trim surrounding the shift knob. You can easily get to the bulb, it's probably just loose.

Now this might be a possibility. Will see I'll try that. If not that, anything other than the bulb might cause this? Thanks

....So, I just pulled the cover out and just shifted the Dam middle piece then it came on agian wtf.... But, anyways I'll just deal with it like this I'm pretty sure it will go off agian.

bad bulb or loose connection somewhere,
the fact that you said when it went off at first you could hit it and it would come back on proves this.
i would take the console apart and, even if its working now, look at the wires and hit the side of the console or flick the bulb and see if you can get it to flicker or go out. you just have to find the loose connection and whether its the bulb or not, bulbs not usually being expensive you should go ahead and put a new one in while your in there either way.

Ok so the dam thing finally went off and wont come on. Like I said before it's not the bulb. So I know how to take out the cover over the shifter but, how do you take out the Center piece that is P.R.N.D. etc.. I know noob questions. But, please don't tell me I have to remove the whole center consol, I would hate to do that. I prefer not to bring this to the stealership. Thanks

I have the same intermittent problem with the light for several years as well. It is sometimes on and sometimes off. There is probably a bad connection.

Has anyone figured out whether it is really the bulb or if there tends to be a loose connection of some type? Since the light can go on and off, it appears to be more of a wiring/connector issue.
