HELP: Those of you using Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF

Postby ampreston85 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 2:57 pm

I noticed a lot of you guys in other threads stating you use Mobile 1 Synthetic ATF. I just want to make sure i get this right, you are using the Dex/Merc ATF that they recently came out w/ which is compatible w/ Dex III which is what the Gen 1/1.5 calls for in the User Manual, is that correct? I need answers asap. Getting Tranny fully flushed (including torque converter) on Saturday! I would love to use Mobile 1, but if i don't get an accurate answer asap, I'll have to go w/ Eneos which is what I'm using for my Synthetic 5w30 Motor Oil as well. Thank you all for your quick responses.

The list I made for the Type IV equivalents were:

Amsoil Synthetic Universal
Eneos AT Fluid
Mobil 1 ATF
Redline D4
Royal Purple Max ATF
Wolf's Head Universal Synthetic

The Mobil 3309 fluid is the Toyota Type IV.

I used Amsoil's ATF for about 2 years and recently switched to the Redline D4 as a test.

could be mistaken...
but i used amsoil universal fluid so im covered either way

^^ yes dexron has been updated. I believe dexron VI is the latest, amsoil atf says it can be used for GM DEXRON® III-H.
they discribe this as:
"GM DEXRON® III-H, for 2005 and older vehicles originally calling for DEXRON®, DEXRON® II & DEXRON® III"

Royal purple max ATF FTW!

That stuff can take a horrendous beating and not break down.

Ya, the main reason why i ask, is because the manual does call for Dexron III, however, from the research I've done, they no longer produce Dexron III, but instead produce equivallents. I called a "Toyota Specialist" yesterday and told them I was thinking of using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF Mercon V... The guy immediately said not to use that fluid as it is not made for this car at all. But on a thread i found here, I noticed several people using that fluid lol. Honestly, I want synthetic no doubt, as I'm not interested in having to do this again anytime soon... But I am leaning towards either Royal Purple MAX, or Redline D4.... And i was even thinking of going JDM Exteme lol and ordering some Eneos Snythetic ATF which is what is most used in Japan for all Japanese cars. I read also a couple of places as well as a toyota shop that i can remove coolent line from A/T Cooler and pump out the old fluid while putting new fluid in...

For a while, Mobil 1 ATF wasn't compatible with Type IV until very recently. It's definitely been in the last 2 years, because it wasn't listed as compatible when I lived in Mexico and I used to buy M1 ATF for use as PSF fluid.

I put this post up on CL, http://www.clublexus.com/forums/5266853-post4.html and it shows the various viscosities/info I could find on the ATFs I mentioned earlier.

I actually had my final two this time being the RP and the Redline and decided go with the Redline.

i have an i4 and bought penzoil atf and it's compatible for both dex 3 and iv and i've read other users using penzoil and not having problems but yet improvements so that's what im changing my atf to, and if you're still skeptical go to the dealer and buy genuine Toyota atf
