Exhaust = nothing but sound + bling, but muffler only sounds like ***
Y-pipe/Merge = very important to mid/peak power
Cat = good thing to get rid of
Headers = Useless & horribly expensive
Cams = Useless & horribly expensive
Advanced Piggyback = great investment
Porting & Polishing = a bar none must have at some point for *any* setup

see those #'s in my sig below, if i didnt have a complete perfomance exhaust, then i wouldnt, as for price, obx complete exhaust & headers for about $750, thats cheap for about 30hp............... :drinking:

Actually, I'm wondering if for any given exhaust, like the TRD muffler, does a louder exhaust note mean more airflow, hence more power?

I ask because since I changed my cone filter to the fujita filter, the exhaust is louder and deeper, and best of all, I got my low-end grunt back on my sri!

That's right, using the Fujita filter gave me back my low-end torque with my obx (same as injen) sri.

Anyway, does anyone know about airflow vs. exhaust sound?

Those really loud mufflers make your car sound turboed, when it's not. It's so poser-ific!

i have a civic too..

its fast..

until i hit 30mph. :/

the honda tuning shop told me for 2k i can make my ef sedan run mid/high 14's. i told them my avalon can do that with 500 bucks, why should i mod the civic? they told me its a sleeper, i shook my head and said my old s/ced avalon took sti's and evos from a roll, i had 3 stock rims and a spare and its a family sedan, what's the sleeper here?

if ur n/a i don't see why u'd gain ne more power w/ an exhaust aside from a y-pipe. more airflow would increase overall sound, but not from ur exhaust because u didn't free anything up from the exhaust part of the car. take out a resonator or cat u allow more airflow (not much) but it'll be louder.. not necessarily noticeable power gains.
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

^^ NICE! i like how you roll! lol anyways the reason why honda civic's sound turbo'd with those big exhausts is because of the engine, they what varu from 1.5 to 1.8L from say 1993 to 2005 or newer and with a big muffler the fast moving air from those high revving civics sound turbo'd because of the inline 4 and because of the power and torque curves and how they blend.

Our cars with bigger 3.0 to 3.2L V6 have totally different curves and are pushing more air and even more if sc'd. no matter what yo do to our cars your going to have a deeper sound then the civics or any inline 4, (maybe aside from my friends 07 Cobalt SS sc'd)

usually you can say more L more cylinders is usually a deeper sound, untill you get to v10, or v12 cause theyre so high revving, hopefully you catch what im trying to say. but ya nameless please get your facts straight about our cars before saying anything.

aside from that, dude you should get a full obx exhaust and intake it'll be a great start to modding your car! and will make things easier down the road in the modding world! :)

good luck
