Whenever I brake a little harder than normal and I go over a decently-sized crack in the road while braking, my abs turns on (and unnecessarily I might add).

Does this happen to you guys, or is my abs trigger happy? I'm always a little surprised whenever it happens since I usually never brake hard enough to get that weird pulsation through the brake pedal from the abs.

Toyota's ABS ius WAY over sensitive. Same thing in both my '96 V6 Camry, my dad's '96 I4 Camry wagon, and mom's '05 I4 Camry.

That happens to me, especially on the crappy stock all-season 16s or bald tires.

Yeah, I think it's the Toyota ABS sensitivity.
Haha, try autocrossing the car.
You'll get ABS in every braking zone, it sucks.
Maybe I'll try disabling it for an autocross this season.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

When I brake all of a sudden while driving over some cracks or those lights on the street that line crosswalks, my brakes seem to skip a bit.

I'm 56 y/o, and I've been driving a long time. When I
first learned to drive, I was told that it is better to let
a car roll slowly over a pot hole without braking rather
than holding the brake while it drops into the hole. This
allows the drop to be less tramatic to both the car and
driver. To do this effectively, however, the hole must
be anticipated and sudden braking avoided as much as
possible. On another note, in this first year of driving
and owing my Solara, I have not experienced any
of the ABS sensitivity issues aforementioned in this thread.

Unhook the ABS pump harness. Sets the ABS light off disabling the ABS system. Plug it back when done, ABS back on. :)

i only saw the abs light up once during a huge storm when I braked, i guess the road was slick enough to cause it. other than that never had, mine isn't sensitive or that i never braked that hard. i gradually brake to have a smooth stop.

Great advice, Jimmm.

All you have to do let off the brakes for the half-second it takes to traverse the bump/ hole. Then, continue to brake normally. This 'unloads' the front suspension and returns the nose of the car to it's normal ride height. This way there is more suspension travel available to 'smooth out' the bump. Also, the weight of the car is shifted forward when you hit the brakes. This puts more demand on your springs/ struts as they slam across imperfections in the road.

More on topic-- no issues with my Gen2 abs being over sensitive.
