a bad 02 sensor could cause bad gas mileage but you should have a check engine light if it was bad

a clogged cat should trigger a check engine light also, and you would notice a bad smell like rotten eggs, it would also seem very sluggish when you accelerate

PCV valve? Can you explain what this is and what I need to do to it? My knowledge of engines is fairly basic, but im a quick learner, and fairly "techy" anyway... electronics and bodywork is my thing ;)

I think I gained a few miles per gallon by having the tires aired up to about the recommended p.s.i. :-?

mine did the exact same thing after i got a new tranny put in at 103,000 miles...
friend of mine said it might be the ecu
but i got a full tune up anyway to make sure and it was still giving me problems...
but after a month of driving it around and wasting a TON of money of gas, it just went back to normal..
weird?

Ya, I've had sub 18mpg since i purchased my lara in May of 09. Ran SeaFoam through it a couple of times, but not until recently have I come across the money to address the issues or tune up the car. I just got my oil changed (Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30) and fully flushed tranny (Mobil 1 Synthetic Dex/Merc) And having Spark plugs and plug wires done on monday as well as getting new Toyo Eclipse tires. Will be cleaning out the K&N Air Filter as well. I'll Fill up after i do all that and see if i have any mpg improvement and let you guys know!
