Lowering springs.. need input!

^ That's the same setup my Solara came with when I got it. It was super smooth, not harsh at all IMO. Here is a pic of what the drop looked like:

Adjustability isnt a huge factor for me, I am really not doing anything serious. I like the fact the tein springs are a 1.7 drop in front/1.4 in rear.. I like the front to sit a little lower. I am definitely going to get both struts and springs, certainly dont want my ride to be worse than it is. I really just need to replace the struts, so i figured I might as well upgade.

So as a daily driver, would the tein/tokico setup be alright? I like it alittle stiff, but not to much.. Keep in mind I am in NS, Canada so some of the roads are terrible here!

Thanks again!

I'm runnin' TEIN and TOKICO struts on my car.
The ride quality is really good.
It's alittle soft for me, hence i'm plannin' on gettin' coilovers in the near future.

I actually got them and got them installed on my car now. Right now im rinning stock shocks in the back with those springs : bouncy. but the front is paired to ebay struts: they hold up fine and they gave me a sick stance. I will post pics when I get my camera back. I've never ridden in any other solara with good springs or struts therefore they impress me because it's alot stiffer and the turns feel alot safer than my old suspension that was as wobbly as yours.

When I get the right rear struts, i will review them adequately...

here is mine on stechs teins and stock struts. I had about 70k on the struts so i thought it would be fine. It lasted a while but changed them out to gr2s around 105k.

No money and i did my own installs so it wasnt a problem for me.

I really like that stance, im convinced that is the setup I am going with. Im sure a good deal will come up at some point. Ill keep my eyes open. The more I drive this car, the more I realize I need new suspension... Pushed the car a little harder today through a windy (as in lots of turns, not windy like the weather) and it definitely felt a little scary at some points, and I really wasnt pushing it haha... Miss my prelude for that reason, the car was soo tight on the corners.

On a side note,
What type of bulbs are u running in your foglights Toy1mzfe??? I like how they almost match the corners/signals.. I guess the same question goes for you, camryonbronze...

Thanks!

Coilovers are definately the way to go if you can find a good deal on a set or have enough cash for a set of JIC, K-Sport, Tein, D2, etc. I got a set of JIC's on my other Solara and I luv the ride, definately worth what I paid for them and as others have said they are definately worth it b/c of the ability to adjust the height, camber, and stiffness is a plus.

On the Solara I just purchased I went with my old suspension Tokico/Eibach Pro Kit Springs for daily driving. The setup is new (only 200 miles on the entire setup) and lowered the car 1.7 all around. Its definately a lot lower then stock and the rears are a little tucked with stock 16's on it for now. Since the fenders are cut higher it the front, it looks a bit higher and the rear looks lower b/c the quarters are cut lower.....the tires in the rear are a bit tucked. The ride is soft but not bouncy and bumps/potholes aren't bad for daily driving on N.Y. roads....mixed in with a TRD RSB it feels good on the turns.

Here's a few pics after I installed them over the weekend.

I am in Nova Scotia, you?

And here is a question for whoever would like to answer... As I say, it feels as though my struts are gone. SO what about upgrading the struts for now, and doing new springs later??? What would that feel/look like? Im thinking it would give me a better spring rate and fix the bouncyness??? (is that a word? haha)

How would you compare it to using the stock struts?

Here is the problem I am having.. for example when driving on the hwy, or any speed about 45mph+ and I hit dips or more gradual, smooth/long bumps, etc the car seems to be really "floaty"... like it still seems to bounce slowly up and down afterwards.. It is not a real hard, abrupt bouncing, just a smooth, floating type bouncing... FYI it SUCKS hahaha feels terrible to drive at high speeds...

So would new, aftermarket struts like Tokico or KYB fix this? or do i need new springs too?
THANK YOU!!!!!

Thanks for the info, I guess that is exactly what I will do if I dont need springs.. First, because I really dont have the money, and secondly because I also still want a semi-luxury ride.. and just no more bouncing!!! Feels like im on a boat lol the more i think about it, the worse it is haha

Key Feature and Benefit
A Whiteline sway bar - the best dollar for dollar handling improvement you can make to your vehicle

Features and Benefits
Whiteline sway bar, anti-roll or stabilizer bar
A Whiteline sway bar, anti-roll or stabilizer bar provides a link between the left and right hand side of your suspension during cornering and is designed to minimise vehicle body roll, with cornering loads spread more evenly across the tyres resulting in more grip. Better grip, improves handling and ultimately leads to a higher performing vehicle. Whiteline adjustable sway bars allow their stiffness to be altered by increasing or reducing the length of the lever arms. This permits the roll stiffness to be tuned for different situations without replacing the entire bar. The stiffer the bar, the more force required to move the left and right wheels relative to each other. This increases the amount of force required to make the vehicle body roll. Whiteline adjustable sway bars offer from 2, up to 4 points of adjustment, allowing in some cases 10 distinct stiffness settings for precise handling bias (towards oversteer or understeer) adjustment. Whiteline sway bars are manufactured using the finest grade spring steel. They are powder coated and supplied with high performance polyurethane mounting bushes in a DIY kit form, ready to simply bolt on. So without reducing comfort, a Whiteline sway bar will make your suspension system and tyres perform better, making the car more responsive while delivering more grip.

This may be a retarded question however...
I notice everyone here has the v6. I am considering buying the Tein springs for my car but i have the v4(1999) and am wondering if there are any suspension related differences to consider...
