F/S: 4 Piston BIG Brake Kit for Camry/Solara

Postby Dawgz » Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:01 am

This is a good step forward, however you should definitly disclose what these parts are that everyone is buying.

Also, to the people who are linking to the other brake setup and playing favorites...u wonder why nothing has been done for this community as far as custom parts go? go figure.

either way, if i was looking for another brake setup, id definitly take a look at this one.

I share the same opinion but you know first hand it wasn't me who built this kit and he wants to keep it a bit on the hush hush.

Dawgz,

I couldn't agree more. Everyone should be thanking this guy for making aftermarket parts for these cars. It's nice to have choices isn't it? No need to play favorites, anyone willing to make upgraded parts for these cars should get a high five.

It's two different kits altogether. Gabes kit is rotors and caliper spacers using your stock calipers. The other kit is upgraded calipers with spaces. Like I said, it's nice to have choices. I think the look pretty damn cool. I love the TRD logo on them, it makes them look like a factory upgrade.

My kit includes upgraded dual piston calipers from a Lexus ES300

This kit includes 4 piston calipers from what looks to be Nissan 350z calipers. Don't quote me on that just a guess from looking at the pictures.

Basically it's 2 options. This setup would be better suited for the track, and is still much cheaper then any name brand kits like KSport (Which I think costs way too much). The one Gabe sells is cheaper, and is good for road use and light track use.

Both are great setups. It's all what the buyer wants.

Cong. to the maker/modifier. I have few questions.

1. Is it for all Gen. Solara (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5)?

2. How many calipers? 2 (front) or 4 (front+back).

3. What's the brake pad material? semi-metallic or ceramic? Sets of pad, 2 (front) or 4 (front+back)?

4. Size 13" rotors. Do you mean outer diameter? For example EBC rotors, front is 296mm and rear is 269mm. Would it work?

5. To be clear on this, brake hoses are not included in the kit, right?

I get that point, however you should tell him that keeping it on the hush is pointless, people will not buy a product that they have no clue on where it came from.

Also, once someone does by the kit, they are free to disclose what everything is, so sooner or later it will be out. U might as well do a favor to your prospective customer and leave the guessing game out.

^ what vik said... I think that the setup looks great

but if I don't think that I can go out and get new pads, or better pads for them I won't buy them

similarly, if I don't know what type of rotor they will need, I won't buy them either

and this is even more so if they are calipers and rotors from a car with aftermarket support, as I would probably skip the pads that you are offering and go straight for a track pad and maybe a two piece rotor setup, etc etc

You've really done the hard part by making the bracket. You can make just about any caliper fit, it's just trying to mount it. So really, disclosing the parts and such is really no big deal. Unless you are the one purchasing the kit and trying to figure out what the total cost is going to be.
The same thing happened to EricSol's kit (now called Gabe's kit) and the JPP headers (OBX).
R and D is very expensive isn't it??
IMO, just sell the bracket and the kit separately. Gabe was selling just the bracket and bolts for what $150 (corrected):sweet: or something like that. It's alot cheaper for you and you don't have to layout that much cash. Unlike having to purchase calipers, pads and such.
Not to mention those outrageous prices for shipping!! LOL!

At the moment the brackets and hardware won't be sold separately.

how do we know what rotors to order?

The person who built this kit would like to maintain some form of secracy on the parts used ALTHOUGH when you purchase the kit it will have the yr/make/model of all the parts used. If it were up to me I'd give you guys the details upfront but I have to respect that it was his money and research going into this project and if it weren't for him we wouldn't have this BBK. Hate the message, not the messenger.

jetbtkng wrote:^ i agree, i have the bbk shown above, and its great, and with gabes you get everything, rotors, calipers, bracket, & all hardware, also gabe can get different styles of rotors, and pads for a little more money.......... :drinking:

There are pro's and con's to both kits but comparing a 2 piston caliper to a 4 piston caliper is like comparing a 4 cylinder vs. an 8 cylinder. Big difference, right? Same principle applies but with brake calipers.

"comparing a 2 piston caliper to a 4 piston caliper is like comparing a 4 cylinder vs. an 8 cylinder." No it's not. You are exaggerating.

I'll try to answer everyone's inquiries with this post. These calipers are OEM to a powerful sports car so these calipers are not fabricated by the builder but rather put together from parts available by big car companies. Same applies for the rotors, so these parts can be purchased at parts store. The brake pads included are compounded semi-metallic comparable to OEM quality but there's a lot of aftermarket support so there many brake pad options, including aggressive pads for racing, etc.

Many of you guys have compared Gabe's kit vs. this bbk.

1. Its silly to compare a 2 piston caliper off a luxury sedan to a 4 piston caliper off a high powered sports car. It's simple math.
2. The calipers (in this kit) alone range anywhere from $400-$900. The pads can range anywhere from $80-$160.
3. In everyone's defense, its hard to appreciate the value in this kit or sell something when the brand isn't mentioned, but if you guys don't know the value in this kit, but don't trash it either if you don't know.
4. For everyone's information, the brackets are laser cut for a smooth and accurate finish, rather than cut from a lathe.

NOTE: Gabe's kit is a GREAT value if you're looking to upgrade your brakes for everyday driving (like Adam said) but if you want better stopping power, then the 4 piston is the way to go.
