You don't HAVE to; it's just if you drop it on OEM struts, there's a good chance you'll wear the OEM ones out faster because the OEMs are meant to have a lot of room to move up and down. With lowering springs, you reduce that stroke room.

People say to do the struts with the springs because it'll save time (A LOT) and money in the long run.

since the TRD are designed with a stock suspension in mind you can use them but as stated by ThatVietGuy, it is best to use aftermarket shocks that will handle the sitffer ride and lower stance. the time issue is where id focus, its much easier to do it all at once then to do the springs and then later do the shocks, especially if your not doing it yourself. it will cost a lot more in the long run since the same work will ahve to be done twice.

I have asked this question to myself many times over, and all the answers that I find from various websites recommend getting aftermarket struts (e.g. KYB, Tokico, etc).

I don't see how money is saved just by getting the lowering springs, since you are setting up your suspension, you might as well upgrade the whole thing all at the same time.

i say use the springs on those struts, unless you plan on going back to stock height one day. Reason i say this is because if you are then you should save those struts for that. If not, then who cares...regardless you will end up buying the aftermarket struts later on. At least with these you can see if you enjoy the car dropped or not ( who doesn't lol)
