Taillights and Grill

Taillights and Grill

Postby pepowdylan » Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:37 pm

So i want to do some small modding on my 2001 Toyota Solara.

I'm thinking of two things.

1. Painting the grill completely black

2. Using VHT nightshades spray on my tailights.

1. does anyone know how the grill looks after you sand it down and you spray paint it black?

2. I want to smoke my tail lights, not make them completely black. Will I be able to do that with VHT nightshade?

pics and suggestions would be great!

As far as the tail lights you can contact josue(LatinUSMC)
he does custom smoked lights.

Nite Shades works great. I just followed the directions and used it like I would with any spray paint. I did one light (tack coat) and two medium coats. Its dark and lets plenty of light through when I hit the pedal. It's very smooth and durable too. Just clean the light well and use proper spray technique. As for the grill, I don't like an all black grill on a car that isn't black, I would do the frame and horizontal bars body color. I makes it look like it was done that way from the factory. And definitely don't paint over the emblem.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

IMO the grill looks bad all black...i recommend leaving the emblem silver...or make your own custom grill like i did. i also think the nightshade spray sucks because it becomes dull. the best option would be to tint them...if you are trying to save money though then just leave tails red...looks better on white solara.

I used VHT to tint my tails. What I did was sand down the lights first with like an 800 grit. Sprayed 2-3 even coats of VHT, 30 min. in between coats, then used 1000 grit to smooth out the tint. After that, I sprayed 2-3 coats of clear. I then used 1000 grit to smooth out the clear. To get it shiny again, get some plastic polish and wax. After all of that, they will be nice and shiny.
