Postby Aja » Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:19 am

Just a question for you guys.... I am the owner of a 2004 Solara and absolutely love it!!! Its reaching 100,000 miles and am thinking of trading it in for a new 2010 Toyota Camry... with all the recalls going on with Toyota I am leary of purchasing another Toyota... interested in your thoughts.....

I'd give it a couple of months to wait and see how the recalls will pan out.....now especially that the government is getting involved. I think if you bought one right now the media and politicians will give you more of a headache than a remote possibility of a stuck accelerator. That being said, if I saw a new Camry SE V6 nicely discounted I'd jump on that in a heartbeat.

That is kinda what I was thinkin.. wait a few months and see what happens. Everyone keeps telling me I'm crazy to get rid of my solara.. that it will run for another 100,000 miles. It just makes me nervous that its almost at 100,000 now and I just keep thinking that now things are going to start going wrong with it.. But I take very good care of it. The only thing I can think of that I might do, as preventive work, is replace the water pump since its the original.

I have 06 solara and 08 camry hybrid. From my personal opinion, the solara drives better than camry (non SE camry have very soft suspension). Camry SE drives similar to solara. Interior is the weak point in newer camry (hard and thin plastic galore), it rattles when cold even after the dash board noise TSB applied. And you can only get gray interior in camry (charcoal interior only available in SE trim).
Solara, on the other hand, has better interior materials and less rattles.
Also, you better drive the camry because the non SE seats are uncomfortable only if you are tall (tigh support is too short). Solara seats are firmer than the one in non SE camry. Both my solara and camry has around 40K miles and both of them are trouble free.
I suggest you to try the SE before you try the other models.

I have rented the 2010 camry multiple times and hate it. There is a HUGE difference in quality between the new camry and gen2 Solara's

Now that Toyota is in a deep hole, you might be able to get huge discounts on their cars. Not every car will have that accelerator problem, the percentage of that is actually very little.

Did you know that the accelerator problem with the Camry have been happening since the 2002 model? A document was found saying that Toyota saved a bunch on limited recalls back then, of course now its coming back to bite them in the ass.

Toyota automobiles can last over 200K easily, I am keeping mine for life pretty much.

The last figure I saw about Toyota cars with defects worked out to something like 2% of all of those models.

100k? I bought mine at 100k. 180k on it now. Zero problems (except for some things wearing out, but that's to be expected).
