HID turning off after 2 min

HID turning off after 2 min

Postby mazen222 » Sun Dec 20, 2009 7:06 am

My passanger side fog light is acting up. Driver side is fine.

a while back it wasn't turning on, so i had to turn the switch off and then back on 2-3 times and it will come on.

now, it turns on by itself but after 2 mins, it dims off. If i turn the switch off then back on, it will turn on for 20 sec and then dims again to off.

Has anyone experienced this before? i have feeling its loose wire or something but i'de like some feedback before i go underthere.

Thanks,
Mazen

Either your bulb or ballast is dead. Failing that, you might want to check all the connections. If it was just a "plug and play" kit, then those are notorious for that type of failure. Using a separate relay harness is always recommended so that you don't starve the ballast of current. If a ballast isn't getting the proper amount of current (steadily), it fries.

Also pull the bulb out. The little bubble in the center where the xenon gas is should be nice and clear for the most part. If it's grey or black at all, then you need a new bulb too.

Lets start with what kinda kit you have?
(Pics if you have'm)

Is it plug n play??

Im guessing its plug n play...
A lot of times where you plug the OEM connection into the HID connection it gets corroded and nasty. That was one of the problems I had with one of my HIDs. The movement of the car would sometimes turn on and off the HIDs. Untill finally the bulb went out because of the constant on and off.

Turning it on and off repeatedly is not good for HIDs either. Thats the best way to blow out a bulb. :)

Hope this helps a bit...

Yeah, I had endless problems with my VVME kit. Ironically, I have the exact same problem as you describe. I got sick of it and went back to halogen. I think the problem resides in a faulty controller though...tap or jiggle the black box that all the wires feed into and see if that flickers the lights?
