*Teaser* BIG Brake Kit for Camry/Solara

Postby sydemoid » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:16 am

thanks Krisp...

Im currently rockin' Ericsol's kit.... the dual piston calipers will net more bite on the rotor... but a 4 piston looks pimp, and adds up to better braking.

I'll have to see wut is on the horizon..... I see great things coming to fruition though....

For several reasons:
1. My calipers are bigger/beefier & most likely perform better
2. Its cheaper to build your own than buy this kit.
3. I honestly love the way my calipers look. They have that Brembo look to them and the "TRD" stamp is simply the cherry on top. I don't like the way the wilwood calipers were designed or the "wilwood" stamp (BUT this is only my opinion).

those things look sweet....can't wait to hear the details

the only thing that I have to contribute, on a technical note though- are these calipers from a real aftermarket (or trd) big-brake kit? or are they stock calipers with a sticker on them and powder-caoted?

because if they are stock calipers, then they are still a floating caliper design, whereas if they are from an actual BBK, they will most likely be a fixed-caliper design, which is much more effective

Alright guys, lets put an end to this teaser and answer all the questions asked by the many members interested in this kit.

QuickSEV6 wrote:Wow. Very cool

Are those designed for the Solara?

Are they available?

These are not designed specifically for the Solara but custom modifications have made it possible to fit the Solara and Camry.

Now.... will you be including the calipers with this kit?... or just the brackets?

how heavy are these calipers in comparison to the stock units? I don't mind too much weight, the clamping force alone makes up for it, but if we could kill unsprung weight, then its a win win win situation.

The calipers and brackets will be included in this kit, among other goodies. The calipers are made of aluminum so they're light but needless to say they weigh more than the small stock OEM calipers on the Solara's.

sydemoid wrote:What pad compound are you going to use?
Are you using them with stock rotors?, or Supra TT Rotors?

Can we use the stock brake lines to connect to these?

I haven't decided yet what pads I'll use. I'll be running a 13" rotor, not stock rotors. You can use stock brake lines. I personally have steel brake lines.

Neither. They are stock to the Nissan so its not from an actual BBK.

Below are pictures of the calipers on the spindle and rotor. Enjoy!

Intriguing, what's the progress report?
I mean, is that stuff at the mock-up phase still?
Trust me, I'm a technician.

This kit is complete. The only reason why I haven't installed it already is because I'm still searching for some wheels. This kit has been tested once before by the creator (if you will) so I will be the second to put this to work. Hope this answers your question.

Hey man, great job.

Whats the total $$$ damage?... lol

I would be interested in the brackets, so call me later on after you get the pricing, I might be able to jump on that... depending on what else breaks down on my car...

I'm interested in just the brackets too, you wouldn't be selling parts from the kit separately would you?

I only ask because I have a few spare parts from my old 240 project...

The guy who built me the kit is currently working on sourcing all the parts to sell as a kit but it could perhaps be an option. He'll be calling the shots on all this so I don't want to jump the gun and promise something I can't keep. I'll keep everyone posted.
