How many hours does the job call for to replace a clutch in a 2000 toyota solara 2.2 liter? I need my clutch replaced and I have the parts, but I don't want to get ripped off in labor. Someone told me the job calls for 12 hours, but that doesn't seem right. Especially since it is a 4 cycl and there is plenty of room to get around the tranny.

a lot of mechanics i know charge more if you bring your own parts vs. if you buy thru them (b/c they lose the markup on the parts). one mechanic i know won't even install parts he doesn't source. you might want to make sure you won't be charged a "penalty rate" for bringing in your own parts.

i think i was charged 6 hours for clutch/flywheel on my 99 2.2. 12 hours does seem a bit high. make sure they replace the rear main seal when they do the clutch - it should only cost you about another $50. definitely worth it.

^ + half-hour labor according to book time ;)

same with timing belt changes....there is a book rate, but it doesn't include the seals...seals are separately billed, so it depends on your mechanic...
