Death of my Solara. (Update Pics 2nd Page)

Just wanted to let you all know, that yesterday afternoon I was leaving Warfield, AFB here in Maryland. Upon entering the intersection that had a green light. I was than hit on the drivers side by a lady in a VW Toureg SUV doing 45 mph. I witnessed her car not rollover but cartwheel bumper to bumper 3 times and land right side up in the median.

My car did spin a little, the drivers window blew out and both air bags did deploy. AF Security Forces, Fire Fighters and EMT responded with in minutes of the crash. I was rushed to Bayview Medical Center and once the x-rays and CT Scan cleared I was than released.

As of this morning my Neck and shoulders are suffering from a lot of pain but told that would be normal. I will being some specialist in the next 72 hours.

As for the accident I have several witnesses saying that the lady did run the red light. I also know there is video surveillance from the Security Forces entrance of the intersection.

As for the car she hit the drivers side front end. The bumper was shredded off and hood bent inward along with a cracked wind shield and blown out drivers side side window. The engine was still running after the accident happened. I am hopeful that this will not be a total but you just never know! I will have pictures posted soon and possibly video of the accident.

God Bless to all.

I'm glad you are relatively OK, Arizona, but air bag deployment usually means that it is totaled. Based on what you wrote, however, it sounds pretty totaled regardless of the air bag deployments. My mechanic told me that air bag deployments are so inter-related to other intricate components of the car that it usually means there is so much more damage than meets the eye and it's not cost-effective to fix. If the lady ran the red light and you have witnesses, then you should SOON be shopping for a new car surely. I have a friend who had an accident in his 2007 Lexus IS350 when it was a month old. It sustained $30,000 in damages and they did not total it. $30,000 later they were still fixing, under warranty, what the accident did. Count your blessings, Man, and start looking. jimmm

I am almost certain that your car will be a written off. As soon as the airbags come out, the car is usually gone.

At least you're ok though....that accident could've ended up a lot worse, and thankfully it didn't. If they do end up writing it off, I say trying to find another one!...:)

Thanks for everything.
Yea they put both of us in the same ambulance. As I know now she also is ok, just complaining about her chest where the seat belt locked up. I talked to the insurance lady and they did say they are probably going to total it. Im going to miss her a lot!!! Because I did all the Maintenance & Aftermarket work to that car. I also had big plans for it also... almost 10k worth.

I'll have pictures soon, I am in the market for another car but most likely when I come back from Afghanistan in the summer. I would love a low mileage Gold 03 SLE Solara.

Jesus, glad to see you walked away from that. Hopefully the pain won;t last long and you can get back to normal.

The bad note is I'm 100% sure your car is totaled. Airbags deployed in an older car is instant total.

And get a lawyer if you are in pain.
