Go to AutoZone.

Ask the guy, "I have a check engine light on. Can you get it read for me?"

Write down whatever code(s) come up.

THEN and ONLY then do you come back here for help.

to be fair, that doesn't really look like much of a picture of an engine these days. not sure how it looks like a pipe either though. more like a sort of blob with a line on the side.

does it cost money at autozone for them to scan the code?

i took it into the shop and they charged me 95 dollars for a "diagnostic"
they said something about P0401 and something about EGR insufficient/low and it would cost 350-400 to fix it
does this seem right? i felt kinda ripped off
is there anyway i can fix it myself?

please help.

You sure did get ripped. Research before action is key.
Autozone scans your codes for free I believe.

shops will charge a 'diagnostic fee' which they normally pro-rate towards your repair bill...this keeps you from having them diagnose then you going somewhere else

autozone does not charge to scan, as they are not motivated to be the shop doing the work on the car.

i really doubt seafoam would do anything for egr unless you soaked the egr valve in it. i also have p0401 but thats cuz my egr system is blocked off on purpose... :D
