hey, first time post. i have a 99 SLE, with an auto trans and it's been sitting for a few months. when i bought it, the car wasn't running right. i had to replace the knock sensors. so i figured while i was in there doing that, i'd replace a few other things. i replaced the timing belt, the accessory belts, the water pump, the timing belt tensioner, the spark plugs, the battery and the starter, along with all the necessary gaskets. my problem now is that when i put the car in drive, it will accelerate slowly, but when i hit the gas a little harder, the engine revs but the car doesn't move any faster. it,s almost as if theres something holding it back. it really doesn't feel like the trans. any help would really be appreciated. i have no idea where to start. thanks

I have the same problem when hit the pedal, looks like the gearbox is not locking. (high rev. no acceleration)

Do you have the same feeling?

one day i had the same problem when accelerate. i pushed the o/d but ...but not good enough and the switch bounce back....then i felt the trans lock and it accelerate.
Sometime i need to put it manually in 2nd gear to accelerate fast.

i tried putting it in 2nd gear, and that didn't seem to fix it. it sounds like the engines straining. not like the trans is slipping. thats more of a quick rev up. mine revs pretty slowly

i don't think it's misfiring. i would think that would throw a cel? wouldn't it? it almost sounds as if it's not breathing well. i am going to pull the exhaust on saturday and see if maybe that got backed up. like i said before, it sat for a while. maybe something got in there while it was in my driveway

since you did your timing belt, the first thing you should check is your timing belt and see if your timing is off.

even if it's off a notch or two, you will have pretty much no power
