Title says it all.

Does anyone make a limited slip differential for the Gen 1 Solara with the a451e transmission?

Anyone have one?

Thanks,

Ben

I guess the differential is the same in our cars as the earlier Camrys then?

$500 for that stuff, man they must be profiting pretty well.
Thanks Sleeper.

Any other options?

lmao you think 500 is expensive for an lsd? on the miata, you're LUCKY if you can get a factory torsen for under a grand. and that's used! granted, it's a completely assembled rear end that is a straight bolt-in without having to deal with shims or anything, but still...

phantom grip is FAR from a true torsen/helical/clutch type LSD but seems to be the only option for auto trans guys.

$500 is also far from the price of a new torsen. if you were to just buy teh center chunk from a dealership, you'd be looking at something like $1500 or so. plus shims, bearings and labor of basically rebuilding the rear end.

i think tiem paid about 800 or so for this TRD one in my 98 (plus labor and misc parts to install), but it's a clutch-type and i don't know if it would work in an auto. probably not, as its clutches are designed to work with gear oil, not atf.

For clarification, I am well aware of the cost of a REAL LSD. I was just saying that the Phantom Grip stuff is just four springs and a couple machined blocks, nothing that would actually cost them $500. The problem is that they don't stock the kit for us so they charge more. A kit for a honda and many other kits are only $300. I would expect to pay upwards of $1000 for a REAL LSD.

Thanks for the input guys.

So? what will $500 in the form of some blocks and springs do for your car?

The blocks and springs put pressure against the gears in the differential, giving the wheels a connection to one another that they otherwise would not have. This means that you have power flow to both wheels more of the time, such as during a hard launch or burnout at a drag strip. Rather than burning one tire off while the other sits there not turning at all, both will spin equally.

James: I would bet that it does come with a sticker.

Correct.

I think because of the higher cost for the conversion kit, is that it is made to order.
