Hey everyone, new solara v6 5spd from montreal!!!

I<ve been was roaming the forums for about a month now and have seen some sick rides... kudos to all

just getting into the new car, luv my new luxury-sports-gran-tourer

but want a more aggressive car in the corners therefore,

now lowering!

I ordered some canuck motorsports springs... saw some good reviews on maxima forums : drops 1.7 f\r

I saw some ppl here who were reliably running stock struts w\ aftermarket springs... searched in vain for a topic on this subject... maybe someone can redirect...

I know it<s not recommended but if I can save 300$ on struts cuz mine are just THAT good.... well hey!

That is why I want to know who here has been running this ghetto setup sucessfully or for how long...

I also got a double din touchscreen that I should be recieving this week will post pics soon!!!

thanks

Welcome, and nice find on the V6 5-speed. :sweet:
I've been running that ghetto setup since April 08', except on TRD lowering springs, so about 15k miles, over a year and a half. I can't help in describing the ride difference between aftermarket struts and oem ones, but I'm happy with what I got and the ride feels good enough for me. I'm sure the TRD rear sway bar helps out a lot. That's an upgrade worth getting your hands on for sure. Maybe next year I'm able to save up for some struts or co's, since I'm sure I'm missing out on a whole different feel.

i had tein s-techs on stock struts and it was fine. At lfrist you think that your setup is pretty good and be fine with it, but after you change your shocks its totally different. You feel more stable and balanced and comfortable.

I drove with my stock shocks and teins for over 2 years and its totally fine. As long as ur not expecting crazy gains. PROS- Save money, get a good drop, milking the life of your shocks. Cons- okay/decent ride, need to change shocks in the future, price for #2 alignment,

thanks for confirming that the shocks will not blow on the first pothole I hit... anyone from MTL? any students from UMONTREAL?

I saw some diy info on this site, might get a haynes manual if I can find ne at canadian tire and will start drop it on monday.... anyone as done it themselves have any suggestions on parts that will prolly break on the install...(bolts, nuts, washers, hairpins, windows, nails, anything?)

my 1st suspension diy... not quite knowing what to expect...

F**K just got a 250$ speeding ticket... lucky i wasn't going 5kmh faster, would've lost the license...phew...

I found the solara in granby (about 1hr drive) away from where i live, it was in the corner and the dealer couldn't sell it cuz it was 5 spd lucky me only 3 grand!!! 194 000 km... accidented 3x... lol it runs fine... some knicks but nothing too major... cel on because of an evap system leak or failure sumwhere... not too worried...

I'm definately considering the rsb... seems like gains are significant but for now I want to get 20% tints all around, my sub setup w\ clarion double din hu... short term plans...

Cheers

Welcome man, im from montreal too (ville st-laurent) and i have 5speed V6. Lets go race :P

i have zero mods so far. Just trying to do some maintenance here and there. previous owner didn't, so each month i get something done. im buying most of the parts from ebay for crasy cheap and get the labour done at garage for hourly rate of 55$ ;)

i kind of like the smooth oem shocks... so i can't suggest anything there for you.

Glad to see someone from around here!
