Extremly bumpy ride

hey guys, so this has been a problem now for almost a year.. My ride is total crap. You can feel every single bump.. and when I'm turning and there is a pothole my car feels like it lifts off the ground an inch, my ride is very uncomfortable to the point when anyone gets in my car I hear about it and its such a gorgeous car it deserves better what could it be? I know struts possibly but I was talking to this mechanic at work and he told me it could be something else. Thanks in advance guys!

It's one thing to be talking about it and another to be looking at the car to diagnose it properly. My money's on the struts.

What may that "something else" be that your mechanic talks about? To me its your struts.

worn bushings can make for a weird and noisy ride. anything bent underneath?

Yeah lol it's been almost a year.. I can't afford to put to much into my car school is absolutely killing me financially so how much would replacing my struts cost? Everytime I go over a bump it definetely sounds like something is wrong like I hear my chasey flexing and it moves my whole entire car. I'm not good with suspensions so een if I took a look at it there wouldn't be much I could do.. I wouldn't know where to start. So how much would it cost?

it's most likely your struts. the easiest way to test is to go out to your car & push down on the hood/trunk a few times. if your car bounces up & down, it's strut time. if your car "jumps" or "skittles" across the road when you hit bumps (especially at highway speeds & around turns), that's usually struts.

expect to pay about $80-125/each. it's not a particularly hard job, but it REQUIRES the right tools & unless you know someone who has compression bars, i wouldn't recommend tackling it yourself. if you take it to a mechanic, expect about $400/axle with labor (prices may be different in your area - that's including the $90.00/hr labor rate mechanics charge where i live).

that may seem like a lot, but not fixing your struts can lead to much bigger problems down the road - for example, i cracked my sway bar when i kept putting off strutwork & that alone cost me almost $500.
