Check engine light came on and gone

Postby jaynine999 » Mon Sep 28, 2009 1:22 pm

I have 01 solara (with about 170,000 miles) and it's been running great. The check engine came on about 2 weeks ago and I happened to leave the car parked for about a week. It wasn't too strange when I found out that the battery had died and had to jump it. Oddly, now the engine light is gone. Can anyone tell me if this mean that the engine problem has been fixed? I hope it is...

nope...it means that your battery went so dead that your ecu had its memory wiped

but chances are that the code will come back. once it does, get it scanned and let us know what it is so we can help you with it

^^ x2

alternatively, it could be said "in order to clear a CEL, disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes"

if it comes back get it scanned

if it doesn't, then i guess problem solved....

if the code came on because say... your gas cap wasnt sealed all the way you would get a code. you would then need to reset battery and it will go away.

If it pops up again it is most likely more serious then "just reset the battery"
